Gary O’Neil could solve a significant problem at Wolves this summer by signing one low-cost transfer target.
The summer will be a time for Wolves to finally bolster their squad, as Gary O’Neil seeks essential reinforcements.
O’Neil guided his side to an adequate 14th-place finish however, the lack of depth available became detrimental to how high the club could have finished.
While the manager has set his sights on signing a new forward this summer, the latest link could see one significant problem finally solved at Molineux.

Wolves could revisit former transfer target Nico Elvedi
Wolves were interested in Nico Elvedi last summer however, the centre-back instead signed a new deal with Borussia Monchengladbach.
Now, the Switzerland international could leave the Bundesliga this summer, with The Athletic now reporting that the Old Gold ‘could return’ to their interest.
The interesting part of a possible deal is that Elvedi has a release clause of £8.5m, making him an affordable option for O’Neil to consider when weighing up his transfer priorities.
While a forward is high up on the manager’s list, a centre-back could be just behind, particularly after the frailties that were exposed at the end of the season.
Gary O’Neil can solve a big issue at Wolves by signing Elvedi
If Wolves’ depth in attack was a concern, the issues at the back were just as alarming.
The Old’s Gold’s end-of-season form was dire, picking up just five points from a possible 30 in their final 10 league games.
A lot of the drop in form was attributed to the loss of Craig Dawson, whose presence in central defence was greatly missed when his season ended prematurely due to injury.
Journalist Liam Keen described losing Dawson as ‘pivotal’ to Wolves, as the 34-year-old added so much structure to the back line.
In his place, the likes of Santi Bueno failed to fill the void left by the Premier League veteran, hammering home that Wolves desperately need to add to their defensive depth this summer.
In Elvedi, O’Neil could capture a player with great experience in Germany, having accumulated 260 appearances in the Bundesliga during his career, via Transfermarkt.
Elvedi was dubbed ‘incredible’ by Max Eberl, Borussia’s former Sporting Director for his composure and consistency, something Wolves were lacking in the latter stages of the season.
At just £8.5m, Wolves could acquire a seasoned centre-back in the Swiss defender, who would surely help the Old Gold solve their issue of depth at the back ahead of 2024/25.
