Gary O’Neil could make his transfer wish of signing a new striker at Wolves come true if the club take a look over at their Midlands rivals.
Wolves are already making moves this summer in the transfer window, as Gary O’Neil prepares to announce his first signing of 2024/25.
20-year-old winger Rodrigo Gomes is poised to have a medical this week, as the Old Gold acted fast to beat Atletico Madrid to his signature.
While Wolves have made a statement by acting so promptly in the window, the club could now fulfil O’Neil’s transfer wish by considering a swoop for a former Aston Villa player.

Wolves should consider a move for former Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer
As O’Neil’s hunt for a new number nine continues, Wolves should take a look over at Villa Park to monitor the movements of one talent.
Despite signing for Sheffield United last summer from Villa, Cameron Archer is due to return to his former club due to a clause in his contract after the Blades’ relegation.
As reported by BirminghamLive, the Englishman is not expected to stay at Villa, with the understanding being that he will leave shortly after his procedural return.
Archer signed for Sheffield United for £18m last summer, a transfer that could have ended far better for both the player and the club.
With the England U21s star set to be on the move once more, Wolves should be alerted to the talent that will be available.
Archer could thrive under Gary O’Neil
Having netted four goals in 30 appearances in the Premier League last season at Sheffield United, it would be cruel to judge Archer on the campaign he suffered through with the Blades.
The club finished bottom of the table, recording three wins and conceding 104 goals in what was a truly humbling year in the top-flight.
Wolves should take note of the quality that Archer possesses in their search for a striker, as the Englishman shone over the 2022/23 campaign while on loan at Middlesbrough.
Described as ‘incredibly prolific’ by talent scout Jacek Kulig, the 22-year-old contributed to 17 goals in 20 appearances that season in the Championship, sporting a conversion rate of 30%, via Sofascore.
There is certainly a player there to be explored by O’Neil, who has already worked his magic on improving strikers at Wolves, getting the best out of Matheus Cunha.
The Old Gold could reap the benefits of striking a deal for Archer, who has shown that he has the fundamental skills to one day develop into an established Premier League forward.
