Fosun still haven’t learnt from summer disaster amid new Wolves transfer development

If Wolves can pick up a few wins before January then the transfer window suddenly has that added importance.

It’s safe to say that things haven’t gone to plan this season for Wolves. In fact, things have gone ten times worse than any supporter could have ever predicted.

Zero points after 12 games has pundits like Alan Shearer rating the chances of the Old Gold breaking Derby County’s lowest ever points total in the Premier League.

This all stems from the lack of quality brought in during the summer months after waving goodbye to Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Nelson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia.

The club opted to bring in several unproven players who have zero experience in the Premier League. And most importantly, forgot to even find a like-for-like to replace Cunha’s goals.

The summer of 2025 was a brilliant transfer window in Jeff Shi’s eyes…

“I think it is a good window. The key purpose of the window is to help the coach. We tried to base the squad on Vitor Pereira’s view. Of course we didn’t achieve 100% of the signings we wanted, but I think we are 90% there.”

Wolves send scouts out to watch FC Porto in action

Wolves have had plenty of success scouting out in countries like Portugal. The signings of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota and Matheus Nunes are just a few examples of this.

However, the most notable negative was the signing of Fabio Silva, whom Wolves ended up taking a loss of around £13 million on when he joined Borussia Dortmund.

And it appears as if the same scouting plan is still in place at Wolves, as A BOLA is reporting that scouts were in attendance to watch FC Porto at the Estádio do Dragão on Thursday.

It’s claimed that Gabri Veiga, Alberto Costa, Alan Varela, Victor Froholdt, Pepe and Samu Omorodion all impressed, but with Wolves’ Premier League stats uncertain it seems like a waste of time.

Wolves never learn from their mistakes

Fosun have already made the promise to move away from Jorge Mendes for recruitment and transfers moving forward, but this just screams of a move involving him.

Premier League experience is what this team is crying out for right now. In the midst of a relegation battle, you need experience to call upon to get you through the tough times and lead from the front, but it says it all when Sam Johnstone, Daniel Bentley, Matt Doherty and Jose Sa are the only players over 30.

It’s a difficult decision for Wolves to make…⌛

Trusting in unproven Premier League quality like Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez just hasn’t worked, and what makes it even worse is that Wolves turned down Harry Wilson and David Brooks in the summer.

It’s all well and good scouting promising players over in Portugal and making use of the same links and connections that have brought success with profit on transfers in the past. But times like these call for a Plan B, which is something that Fosun don’t appear to have up their sleeve.
