Wolves must ensure that Gary O’Neil is supported in the summer transfer window to commend the work he has done at Molineux this season so far, with one area needing to be targetted by Fosun.
After the summer that Wolves endured ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, it’s astounding that Gary O’Neil has succeeded so much in so little time at Molineux.
The Englishman promptly took the reins from Julen Lopetegui just days before the start of the Premier League season after what was a trialling summer of finances for the Old Gold.
Lopetegui failed to believe that his squad had the quality and depth to challenge in the top flight, a belief that O’Neil has abolished however, the manager will now need some assistance in the 2024 summer window.
While Wolves are doing significantly better than some may have imagined, Fosun must support the boss in the summer as much as their finances allow, with the club wanting to avoid making the same mistake as last year.
The mistake that Wolves must avoid making again in the transfer window
Last summer, Wolves were linked with former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres.
In May, it was even revealed that the Old Gold were leading the race for the 25-year-old, who later joined Sporting CP for a fee said to be around only €24m (£20.5m).
Fast-forward to now and the Swedish talisman has a monstrous 43 goal contributions in 35 appearances this season for Sporting, telling of what Wolves could have had if the price was right.
Of course, no one knows the situation of the player and the clubs involved however, Wolves needed a striker at the time of Gyokeres’ availability and a deal wasn’t able to be sanctioned.

Wolves must sign a striker in the summer window
Luckily, strikers come back around, whether they could come as good as Gyokeres is another question.
Wolves have this week been linked to Wolfsburg forward Jonas Wild, who is said to be of interest to the Old Gold ahead of the summer window.
According to news outlets in Germany, the 25-year-old is valued around the €25m (£21m) mark, making him an affordable asset for Wolves to consider should he remain of interest in the summer.
O’Neil has been vocal about his desire to sign a striker, with his perspective not set to change by the end of the season, meaning Fosun must step up and present the manager with the opportunity to welcome a new forward.
Without a true number nine, the boss eclipsed Wolves’ scoring tally from last season after just 27 games played, giving light to just what he could do with his squad if he had a ruthless striker in his arsenal.
