Forget Jean-Philippe Mateta, Wolves should be worried about another Crystal Palace star’s record

Crystal Palace travel to Molineux on Saturday, where Rob Edwards will be hoping to start his tenure with a surprise win.

The Old Gold are the underdogs heading into the game, with many expecting the Eagles to come through it with all three points.

Paul Merson has predicted Edwards to lose his inaugural match, suggesting fans might have to pray for a miracle.

Additionally, Chris Sutton agrees on the outcome in Wolves vs Crystal Palace and only sees the away side being the victors.

If Wolves want to have a chance of winning, keeping Palace’s attackers quiet will be key, and while Jean-Philippe Mateta may be the first player to spring to mind, there is another that could cause problems for the Old Gold.

Wolves fans, how do you see Rob Edwards getting on in his first game against Crystal Palace?

While Jean-Philippe Mateta has six goals in the Premier League, Ismaila Sarr is actually Crystal Palace’s leading scorer.

Sarr has scored eight goals across all competitions this campaign for his club.

The Senegalese attacker has been in fine form this campaign, and he will want to produce another good showing against Wolves.

The last time the Old Gold met Crystal Palace, Sarr picked up an assist in a 4-2 win for the Eagles.

With three goals and one assist in the Premier League in nine games, Sarr is on track for his best ever Premier League season, and that makes him a threat worth worrying about.

Rob Edwards will know the qualities that Sarr brings, as the new Wolves head coach did manage him during his short spell as Watford manager back in 2022.

Hopefully, that means he knows the best way to counteract the speed and dribbling that can terrify defenders, as the Wanderers will need to be wary.

Additionally, another man who had a great performance against the Old Gold last season is in contention.

Oliver Glasner confirmed Marc Guehi and Eddie Nketiah are fit to play, with the latter scoring twice in the fixture mentioned above.

Wolves may need to double up on Ismaila Sarr

Giving a tricky wide man like Ismaila Sarr space is the last thing you want to do, so it may be smart for Rob Edwards to try and double up on the winger to prevent him from dealing Wolves a blow.

However, he must also find a way to do so without freeing up any of Palace’s other stars.

It will be a tactical headache he will relish, and it could be the key to Wolves picking up their first win of the season.

The choice between David Moller Wolfe or Hugo Bueno will be a crucial selection, as the left-back or left wing-back will have Sarr as their primary battle.
