Five cheap players Wolves could sign in January

With the January transfer window just around the corner, there are multiple players Wolves should look to sign.

Gary O’Neil has done a great job at the club so far and has seen Wolves move away from the relegation zone. However, due to FFP problems he hasn’t been able to spend much money.

With more depth needed, looking at players whose contracts are expiring could be a way around spending big in January.

If Wolves want to break into the top half, quality additions are needed especially when multiple players are being linked away.

Therefore, we have listed five players whose contracts are currently expiring in 2024 that O’Neil should be looking to sign.

Josh Brownhill

The Burnley midfielder has worked his way back into the team after previously being dropped at the start of the season.

Since then, the 27-year-old has been one of the Claret’s best players and is their second top scorer.

Wolves had been linked with the midfielder in the summer and may now stand a better chance of acquiring Brownhill given Burnley’s bleak situation.

The midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2024. However, there are rumours that the club are looking to trigger a one-year extension

There are no doubts that if Wolves were to get hold of Brownhill he would add more creativity and goals to the centre of the pitch.

The Manchester United centre-back would offer a great deal of experience to Wolves’ backline.

The 29-year-old has been at the Red Devils since 2017 and won the Carabao Cup last season.

Man United are yet to trigger his extension which could allow Wolves to swoop in for the defender.

With O’Neil’s side low on depth at the back and Craig Dawson not getting any younger, the Swedish international could be an ideal signing.

A man of his experience in football would only help push Wolves up the table.

Rafa

The winger is yet to renew at Benfica as the January window approaches.

The 30-year-old has consistently been one of the Portuguese side’s best goalscorers.

Rafa has already netted five times this season including a goal past Real Sociedad in the Champions League.

Wolves have been linked with the winger in the past but never managed to bring him into the club.

However, with the winger being out of contract at a foreign side, Wolves are free to negotiate with the 30-year-old in January.

This could see him join on a free transfer in the summer.

Bringing in a winger on his experience would help improve Wolves’ depth on the flanks, especially if Pedro Neto departs in the near future.

Another player Wolves had been linked with over the summer

The Nigerian international has netted six times for Leicester this season and is currently their top scorer.

A striker with such confidence in front of goal could be just what Wolves need to catapult themselves up the table.

Contract talks are yet to get underway between the two.

With Leicester comfortably sitting in the top two, eight points clear of Leeds in third, they may be more willing to sell for a cheaper price.

Tyrhys Dolan

One of the best upcoming players in the Championship.

Talks continue to stall between Dolan and Blackburn with the winger’s contract set to expire in 2024.

The Championship club do have an option to extend by a year but if Wolves came in with a decent offer, it may sway the Lancashire side.

The 21-year-old has four goal contributions so far this season and could offer more depth across the front line.

With players such as Pablo Sarabia still at Wolves, they could help mentor the youngster to become one of the best players at the club.
