Five changes from midweek, system change as Matt Doherty starts: Wolves predicted XI vs Palace

Wolves are facing Crystal Palace at 2pm in the Premier League today and are looking to build on last weekend’s win over Everton.

Gary O’Neil’s side were victorious at Goodison Park courtesy of a late goal by Sasa Kalajdzic. And also some fantastic goalkeeping by Jose Sa.

Wolves then followed that result up with a thumping win over Blackpool in the Carabao Cup.

Fans are feeling optimistic going into today’s game. But Palace will likely offer a stern test as they usual do for Wolves in the Premier League.

With Wolves having brought in four new players at the end of the transfer window, here is a potential XI we could see today…

Maybe this could be a time where he see Gary O’Neil change the system.

Wolves have not had much success at Selhurst Park in recent times, and maybe today calls for a back three. For a few reasons.

Jose Sa will no doubt start, and then maybe O’Neil will bring Toti Gomes in along with Max Kilman and Craig Dawson.

We saw Matt Doherty score two goals against Blackpool playing as a right wing-back, after initially playing on the right of a back three.

O’Neil might be tempted to start the Irishman after his performance.

On the left, if it is to be a wing-backs system, then it would make sense for Rayan Ait-Nouri to start.

In midfield, Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes are surely starting today. Their physicality will be crucial.

And just ahead of them could be Matheus Cunha, who has had a great start to the new season.

And then, O’Neil might just be tempted to go with a front two of Fabio Silva and Sasa Kalajdzic from the start for the first time in the Premier League. Maybe the Austrian is now ready for his first Premier League start of the season, after O’Neil recently suggested he was still lacking a bit of sharpness.

It could be a successful formula with Cunha, Ait-Nouri and Doherty supplying them.

A 3-5-2 system away from home does not feel completely ridiculous to suggest.

It will be fascinating to see what O’Neil does today, with Silva, Kalajdzic and Cunha all in good form.

Should this be the team he selects, it would mean five changes from midweek.

It will also be very interesting today to potentially get a look at some of the new signings.

It is surely not likely that Santi Bueno, Enso Gonzalez, Tommy Doyle or Jean-Ricner Bellegarde start today, given the late stage at which they all signed.

Wolves (3-5-2): Sa/Dawson, Kilman, Toti/Doherty, Lemina, J.Gomes, Cunha, Ait-Nouri/Silva, Kalajdzic.
