Wolves are being linked with a January loan move for Donny van de Beek.
According to the Daily Mail, the Netherlands international recently dropped his agent, and wants out of Old Trafford.
He is now with Ali Dursun, who represents Victor Lindelof and his international teammate Frenkie de Jong.
Conversations with Wolves have apparently already taken place.
It is no secret that Wolves need a central midfielder in the next transfer window.
At the moment, Bruno Lage only has Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker at his disposal.
Morgan Gibbs-White left on loan, which was a move questioned by some supporters. Lage himself also wanted to keep him.
The links to van de Beek are interesting.
This is a player who, quite clearly, needs a change of environment.
His lack of game time at Manchester United has been quite startling.
van de Beek scored 41 goals and made 34 assists in 175 appearances for Ajax. His best season came in 2018/19 when he scored 17 and made 13 assists.
He played a crucial role in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-final that season.
It would be a slight risk from Wolves to go for him given his lack of game time since coming to England, but one that may be worth taking.
van de Beek will be fired up
van de Beek will be absolutely itching to play regularly again, after previously being one of Ajax’s most important players.
His frustrations were very apparent recently when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not bring him on against Villarreal.
At the time of his arrival at United, Darren Fletcher called him ‘a top-class player’.
Wolves could do with a player that can make things happen from advanced midfield positions. van de Beek can do that, as evidenced by his time at Ajax. He can also go from box-to-box.
A lot of Wolves fans will be hoping to see another pursuit of Renato Sanches in January, after being linked with him in the summer.
But if that doesn’t come to fruition, van de Beek would be a good alternative.
In an ideal world, Fosun would get both in, but that’s probably fairly unlikely.
