Deadline day disappointment should buy Bruno Lage some breathing room at Wolves

After all the talking leading up to it, Wolverhampton Wanderers ended transfer deadline without making a new signing.

A number of names were linked with Molineux yesterday.

Renato Sanches, Duje Caleta-Car, Sven Botman, Hamza Choudhury and Kieffer Moore were all reportedly of interest.

But recruitment officials were unsuccessful over all of them.

Bruno Lage must now proceed with a very small squad, after Morgan Gibbs-White was loaned out to Sheffield United.

The new manager has had a tough start in terms of results, but there have been some very positive signs.

The way Wolves have played has been good, and many felt as though he’d earned the backing of his superiors.

But they haven’t gone above and beyond for him, which is hugely disappointing.

The failure to do anything on deadline day has annoyed many supporters, who believe Lage might have been set up to fail.

At least the majority appear to be fully supportive of the 45-year-old now as a result of the disappointing end to the window.

Lage to get more breathing room?

Fosun not granting Lage’s wish of a few new faces is something that could now really get fans on the manager’s side.

Some have still been a bit sceptical about him given the poor results up to now.

Lots have been backing him though amid the exciting brand of football he’s brought, and the lack of support for him from the top will potentially make those people get behind Lage even more.

Given he is lacking all the tools he would like, the potentially new greater swell of support from the fans will be really important for Lage. Potentially, it could help him stick around amid the tough times.
