The January transfer window is closing in and there certainly needs to be some movement coming from Wolves’ direction.
14 games into the Premier League season and Wolves are yet to register three points on the board, which has even Alan Shearer rating Wolves’ chances of breaking Derby’s lowest points record.
It’s a grim reality, and something needs to change immediately if Wolves are to stand any chance of avoiding relegation to the Championship.
With how things are looking right now, one of the only hopes left is the January transfer window.
However, exits will be just as important as incomings in a way, as there are a couple of players who almost look like they’re playing a level above their ability at times.
Who is the one player you want Wolves to sign in the January transfer window? 🤑
Jose Sa’s future thrown into even more doubt as Wolves register an interest in James Trafford
Sam Johnstone is Wolves’ number one right now, but neither he nor Jose Sa has managed to really establish themselves long-term at Molineux.
And it turns out that Rob Edwards isn’t entirely happy with his current goalkeeper situation, which also still involves Daniel Bentley.
It has now been claimed that Wolves are interested in signing James Trafford in the January transfer window, but Manchester City would rather let Stefan Ortega go.
However, to do this, Jose Sa may just be sacrificed as Wolves have zero non-homegrown player spaces available.
James Trafford was absolutely brilliant for Burnley last season, but is he the signing Wolves need in January?⌛
How does Jose Sa compare to Sam Johnstone?
Jose Sa’s two biggest faults have been his positioning and awful mistakes at Wolves. Sadly, he’s proven at times last season, and in the four games he’s played this season, that he just cannot be trusted anymore.
The Wolves goalkeeper was even named as one of the top ten lowest-ranked players in the Premier League earlier this season, which says it all.
| Premier League stats 2025/26 | Sam Johnstone | Jose Sa |
| Matches played | 9 | 4 |
| Goals conceded | 17 | 11 |
| Goals against per 90 | 1.89 | 2.75 |
| Saves | 31 | 5 |
His stats paint a clear picture when you compare them to Johnstone’s.
The Portuguese is averaging a shocking 2.75 goals per game, which doesn’t even account for the four goals he let in against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
In the position Wolves are in, everyone has to be at the top of their game, as these kind of performances are what have caused dropped points so far this season.
