Dave Edwards spots something ‘worrying’ at Wolves, but Vitor Pereira could be about to fix it

Wolves are yet to get going in pre-season, which isn’t a bad thing, but improvements are needed.

The Premier League season kicks off in just over two weeks, giving Vitor Pereira a strict deadline to get his squad in order.

At present, there’s a lot of work to be done, but there are also some positive pointers for the boss to take into consideration.

The most prominent issue is replacing those who have left the Wolves squad, with Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and possibly Nelson Semedo leaving a big hole to fill in the starting XI.

Dave Edwards is concerned about Wolves’ creativity

Wolves have signed two players so far, a number that seriously needs to rise before the end of the window.

After watching the Old Gold in action against Stoke City, a pre-season friendly that ended in a 1-1 draw, former Molineux midfielder Dave Edwards shared one concern he has about the squad amid the transfer window.

“The one worrying thing for me is that up until the last 10 minutes or so, we really lacked any sort of cutting edge in the final third,” Edwards wrote in his Express and Star column.

“After losing Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, Wolves fans will be worrying about where the creativity will come from. We’ve struggled previously when that pair were not in the team.”

Edwards noticed the missing creativity through the absence of Cunha and Ait-Nouri, who had a direct role in 59% of Wolves’ Premier League goals last season.

It’s a concern, but fortunately, Pereira could be about to solve the problem.

Jhon Arias and Amine Adli could solve Wolves’ problem

Wolves signed Jhon Arias, but fans are yet to see a glimpse of the Colombian as he enjoys his summer break.

What Arias will offer is added creativity, being a powerhouse for Fluminense in the final third over the years.

As well as Arias, there could be another shining light added to Pereira’s attack, as Wolves are leading the race to sign Amine Adli from Bayer Leverkusen.

Adli has impressed at Leverkusen since making the move from Toulouse in 2021, being a strong contributor to the goals, which he would be expected to do at Molineux.

Wolves have made contact with Adli over a possible transfer, as the versatile attacker looks to spread his wings away from the BayArena this summer.

The two players are identifiable for what they can create in attack, something that Wolves desperately need right now.

With Arias on board, Adli could be the missing piece to the puzzle, but can Wolves get a deal over the line?
