Where does Castore's Wolves home kit rank among their best in the Premier League?

Fans were excited to see the release of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ kit for the 2021/22 season this week.

It is their first release with their new supplier Castore, who are a relatively new player in the football-shirt design scene. Despite this, they have already secured some huge clients in the form of Scottish champions Rangers and Newcastle United.

In light of the announcement, here is a list of Wolves’ top five Premier League home kits. See if you agree..

Wolves’ first kit with Burrda, a Swiss sportswear company, was released ahead of their second season in the Premier League under former boss Mick McCarthy.

The shirt was certainly more orange than it was ‘old gold’ but the bold black collar helps it make the top five.

It just about evokes good memories for Wolves fans as there was pandemonium at Molineux after the club avoided relegation on the final day of the campaign, despite losing 3-2 to Blackburn Rovers.

4. 2009/10 season (Kit supplier: Le Coq Sportif)

After six seasons away from the Premier League, Wolves were looking to return with a splash in 2009 after winning the Championship title.

Although the kit did not quite have that impact, its simplistic design with the iconic Le Coq Sportif rooster helped earned its way into our fourth spot.

With a limited budget, the 2009/10 season was an unquestionable success for the team. Finishing 15th in the league, they consolidated themselves in the top tier ahead of a second season.

3. 2021/22 season (Kit supplier: Castore)

We are impressed with Castore’s first edition with Wolves, allowing it to leapfrog a few other contenders.

The fresh look and removal of the black stripes down the sides of the shirt definitely give it some more zest. It also gets kudos from us for releasing a line of women’s adult shirts, the first time the club have done this for three seasons.

It was announced this week that new-signing Trincao will be sporting the number 11 shirt. Fingers crossed we will see some great moments in front of a packed home crowd this year.

2. 2003/04 season (Kit supplier: Admiral)

Maybe the most memorable Wolves shirt in this list, and of the the 21st century, not least for its Doritos sponsor.

This kit was not actually made for the top-flight, with Wolves achieving promotion under Dave Jones sporting it the season before.

Sadly they were not able to replicate the highs from that season, finishing bottom of the league on 33 points.

1. 2018/19 season (Kit supplier: Adidas)

Ahead of Wolves’ return to the Premier League in 2018, there was a level of intrigue and ambition surrounding the club like there had not been for generations.

After winning the Championship with ease with a former Champions League manager in Nuno Espirito Santo, hopes were high.

The enthusiasm only grew with the release of this kit, Adidas’ finest for Wolves, sported by huge new additions for the club such as Joao Moutinho, Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker.

It was a kit worthy of such a special season in the Black Country, with the club qualifying for the Europa League and reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
