Ange Postecoglou had one criticism of Wolves in December, the improvement since has been sensational

Wolves face a mouth-watering Premier League showdown against Tottenham on Sunday, and some previous comments from Ange Postecoglou signify their improvement.

The Old Gold have been transformed under the guidance of Vitor Pereira, who has dragged Wolves 12 points clear of safety with just seven matches remaining.

Although the Wanderers aren’t mathematically safe, the chances of Ipswich Town breaching the deficit are near impossible.

Since replacing Gary O’Neil in the dugout, the Portuguese tactician’s style has been a joy to watch, with Jamie Carragher praising Pereira as ‘superb’.

He’s successfully taken a team with zero confidence, improved the fortunes of several players and used Ange Postecoglou’s previous comments as fuel for their turnaround.

Ange Postecoglou criticised Wolves for lack of chance creation in December 2024

In just Pereira’s third game in charge in December, Wolves played out a 2-2 draw against Tottenham with Hwang Hee-chan and Jorgen Strand Larsen getting on the score sheet.

It was a brilliant counter-attacking display from the visitors, who were clinical with their finishing in the final third, scoring from two of their three shots on target.

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou felt it was two points dropped for his side while the Australian also criticised Wolves for their lack of chance creation.

“They didn’t create much,” Postecoglou said. “Fraser had one save to make, but there is always that possibility… and we leave disappointed with the outcome.”

The Spurs boss was left feeling salty that Wolves scored twice despite not creating much. However, since that thrilling spectacle, Pereira’s men have increased their attacking output, even through Matheus Cunha’s suspension.

Wolves are now free-flowing in attack

Wolves players were just getting used to Pereira’s system during that draw in North London but now, fans are starting to see the very best of his methods.

In Wolves’ 2-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday, the visitors landed a whopping 22 shots on goal and created 2.81 xG.

Wolves stats vs Ipswich
2 goals scored
22 shots
7 shots on target
2.81 xG
56% possession

That isn’t an anomaly, either, as the Old Gold have scored five goals in their last three matches, suggesting they’re more free-flowing in attack.

So, ahead of Wolves clash against Tottenham on Sunday, perhaps Postecoglou will fear the attacking talent at Pereira’s disposal.

After all, Strand Larsen has four goals in his last three games, Cunha is returning from his ban and the likes of Joao Gomes and Marshall Munetsi are both in-form.
