Zimbabwe fans have exciting Tawanda Chirewa theory after Wolves gem’s latest showing vs Nigeria

The latest international break has seen a number of Wolves players score goals for their countries – and last night, Tawanda Chirewa struck for Zimbabwe.

It has been a productive past couple of weeks for several players, which is good news for Vitor Pereira with club football resuming again shortly.

The likes of Hwang Hee-chan, Matt Doherty Marshall Munetsi, Matheus Cunha and Carlos Forbs have all found the net during this break, and that can only be a good thing for Wolves.

But there have also been goals for players currently out on loan.

And Tawanda Chirewa rescued a point for Zimbabwe, striking in injury-time against Nigeria in their World Cup qualifier.

Chirewa is looking to finish the season strongly after missing a lot of football earlier in the season while on loan at Derby Country due to injury.

He joined Huddersfield Town in January and he’s been making a decent impression there so far.

It was a good night for Chirewa last night against Nigeria, and some Zimbabwe fans really sent a strong message about him on social media.

On social media last night, there was delight when Chirewa waltzed though in injury-time to equalise against Nigeria.

He had come on as a substitute, and took his goal really well, prodding the ball into the far corner after controlling the ball on the run.

For some supporters of the national team, there can be no arguments that Chirewa needs to be a regular starter for his country now.

@Tina_Bhuru said: “In Tawanda Chirewa, Zimbabwe might be having the closest player to the tag of ‘World Class’. I still wonder why he was reduced to the bench. He is by far one of the most technical & intelligent players we have. Chirewa, Maswanhise & Zemura are starters for Zimbabwe in my books.”

@21gtrk added: “Baller. Born in 2003, he is Zimbabwe’s future.”

@gddrxmr said: “Chirewa is a baller.”

@Simboti_Watcho added: “Tawanda is so good.”

Chirewa can become international hero

It’s great to see such a positive response to the impact Chirewa made last night against Nigeria.

Clearly, there is quite a high opinion of him back in Zimbabwe, and he will surely be looking to nail down a regular starting spot in Michael Nees’ side.

Chirewa is still on the books at Wolves and is highly rated, and it remains to be seen what happens with him this summer.

Caps – 6
Goals – 2
Assists – 0

It was not ideal that he got injured for as long as he did earlier this season.

But hopefully, Chirewa can now make the most of the next two months, and possibly get back to playing either with Wolves or on loan in the Championship next season.

If he can get back playing regularly again, he surely stands to become a hugely important player for the national team.
