Yerson Mosquera now sends 26-word message after being stretchered off for Wolves against Aston Villa

Wolves’ poor form continued yesterday as they lost 3-1 to Aston Villa.

The pressure is mounting on Gary O’Neil, with Wolves now bottom of the Premier League table after five games.

Wolves once again found themselves in a winning position in the game.

Matheus Cunha had given the visitors the lead, and Wolves used the ball very well in the first-half. But Unai Emery’s side came back in the second-half.

There was an element of fortune about their equaliser, with the ball rebounding off Mario Lemina in midfield. It eventually found Ollie Watkins, whose shot deflected up off Craig Dawson.

Ezri Konsa then got Villa’s second, before John Duran sealed the points for the hosts.

It was just another all-round bad day for Wolves, who also lost Yerson Mosquera to injury.

There were 13 minutes of injury time yesterday at Villa Park, because Yerson Mosquera sustained what looks to be a serious knee injury.

The defender was challenged by Morgan Rogers, and the Colombia international was down for a while receiving treatment.

In the end, Mosquera needed a stretcher to take him away.

After the game, O’Neil gave a worrying update on the player, stating that ‘it doesn’t look good’ for the 23-year-old.

A hopeful Mosquera took to Instagram last night to send a message to fans, writing on his Story: “Thank you very much to everyone for your messages, I hope I can be well very soon and that this is nothing serious, faith in God.”

Wolves fans, of course, know that Mosquera has been very unfortunate with injuries since he signed for the club back in 2021.

On his competitive debut against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, he lasted just 10 minutes when he suffered a serious hamstring injury. He did not play for the first-team again that season.

That injury altered his pathway at the club. He went on loan to FC Cincinncati and Villarreal, before finally returning to the Wolves first-team squad for 2024/25.

A major shame for Mosquera

The scenes yesterday of Mosquera leaving the field on a stretcher were awful.

This is a player who has already missed so much football for Wolves, and had worked so hard to get back into the picture.

He has been one of Wolves’ most impressive performers in these opening weeks of the new season.

Fans will now wait for an official update on the player’s condition. But it looks like another lengthy spell could be on the cards for the South American, which would just be devastating. Not just for him, but for Wolves – who are short of depth in his position – as well.
