‘Would’ve been great’ – Club expert says what signing would have made Wolves’ transfer window even better

Wolves experienced a frantic end to the January transfer window. The Old Gold made two Deadline Day signings and were among the busiest clubs in Europe.

Vitor Pereira pushed for a new centre-back and defensive midfielder, and the Wolves manager got his wish.

In addition to Emmanuel Agbadou, who joined earlier in the window, the club signed Nasser Dija from Red Star and Marshall Munetsi from Stade Reims in the window’s final few hours.

The two late additions, costing a combined £26.6 million, have taken Wolves’ winter spending to £43.2 million, but the Express & Star’s Liam Keen feels that, in an ideal world, one more signing was needed.

Liam Keen rates Wolves’ transfer window

Reflecting on the three signings Wolves made, as well as the departure of Mario Lemina, who joined Galatasaray after weeks of speculation, Keen believes Wolves’ window was one fans can feel happy about.

Although Lemina’s exit wasn’t ideal, the club were able to get a £2.5 million fee, which isn’t bad considering the player is pushing 32 and was going to be out of contract at the end of the season.

Consequently, when asked what rating, out of 10, he would give Wolves’ transfer window when considering everything, Keen said: “If I was to judge the window as a whole, I would say, maybe, 7.5 out of 10.

“Maybe, roughly. I think that’s probably fair.”

Given how much the club spent, and judging by how well Agbadou has fitted in, it seems Keen’s assessment is about right.

What would’ve made it better

Of course, nothing is ever perfect, though, and Wolves could have had an even better window if an attacker had been signed.

The Old Gold have struggled for goals this season. It doesn’t bear thinking about where the side would be without Matheus Cunha’s 11 Premier League goals. And to make matters worse, Jorgen Strand Larsen is injured and is set to miss the next three or four games.

It is for this reason that Keen wishes the Old Gold had been able to add another forward before Monday night’s deadline, and it’s tough to disagree.

“If we were to be a little bit picky, we would say another forward would’ve been great, especially with Jorgen Strand Larsen out injured,” he said.
