‘Worst thing imaginable’… Wolves fans lose their heads over Ruben Neves rumour, some are ‘heartbroken’

Wolves fans have been alerted to one cryptic social media post regarding former club captain Ruben Neves.

Neves returned to Molineux during the 2024/25 campaign after emotionally leaving Wolves in the summer of 2023.

The former captain shocked everyone as he left the West Midlands to sign for Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, where he’s since made 81 appearances and contributed to 29 goals.

It’s been reported that Neves could return to Europe in the summer transfer window, with Porto rumoured to be on the midfielder’s radar, but one emerging narrative has since caused a stir amongst Wolves fans.

Wolves fans react to Ruben Neves rumour after cryptic message

As the summer transfer window fast approaches, rumours are starting to fly regarding some sensational moves for players across the globe.

On X, a fan account dedicated to Neves’ career posted a cryptic message regarding the midfielder, saying, “Looks like we’re going to sing, Nuno Santo Man again.”

The post quickly generated attention from Wolves fans, who envisaged two outcomes of the ten-word message: either Nuno Espirito Santo joins Al Hilal, or Neves returns to the Premier League with Nottingham Forest.

It quickly became apparent what Wolves supporters’ greatest fear is, as several started to imagine a world in which Neves represented Midlands rivals Forest.

“If he goes to forest im gonna flip,” one concerned fan said, as another agreed, “Stop watching football I will”

A move to the City Ground could cause a mass of Wolves fans to stop watching football, it appears: “Legitimately will not watch football all season if this happens.”

“Neves going to forest????? I hope not!!!!” A fan said, as the fearful reaction continued to pour in.

“If neves goes to forest I will be heartbroken,” and “Neves going to forest pls I can’t deal with this ?”

Some supporters were able to think rationally, as the instance of Neves joining Forest was not the only message behind the post, with Nuno’s links to Al Hilal also prominent.

“Nunos off to Al Hilal. Or the worst thing imaginable,” a concerned fan said.

Wolves supporters far and wide pleaded for their former captain not to return to the Midlands, as messages like “Please Please don’t sign for Forest” engulfed the initial post.

Nuno Espirito Santo linked to Saudi Arabia return

Fortunately, there haven’t been any links regarding a transfer to Forest for Neves, but there have been reports regarding the other possibility.

It’s understood that both Nuno and Premier League rival Marco Silva are seen as potential replacements to succeed Jorge Jesus at Al Hilal, Neves’ club in Saudi Arabia.

Wolves fans can breathe a temporary sigh of relief, as Nuno has been linked to a shock return to the Middle East, almost two years after bidding farewell to Al-Ittihad.

The two former Molineux icons have been making the headlines for their association with the Saudi Pro League, sending Wolves supporters into a short-lived frenzy.
