Theo Corbeanu made his first appearance for MK Dons last night, after the Wolves youngster joined them on loan last week.
The Canada international had been due to spend the whole season at Sheffield Wednesday.
But surprise news emerged last week that Wolves were terminating his move to the Owls.
Apparently, Wolves were keen to get Corbeanu playing for a team that would be better suited for him.
He had been getting fair game time at Hillsborough. But Corbeanu had been operating as a wing-back, which is not his natural position.
Speaking about the decision last week, Corbeanu said (via Sheffield Star): “When I heard that Liam Manning and MK Dons were interested in me, I was excited. I played against the team earlier this season and I knew this is a club that plays a very positive style of football and I think, at this point in time, it is the right next step for me.”
MK Dons sporting director Liam Sweeting said of the 19-year-old: “He is a really exciting player who provides us with added dynamism and gives us a threat one-v-one as well as in front of goal.”
Last night, Corbeanu was handed his MK Dons debut against Wimbledon.
The team won 1-0, with Corbeanu playing near enough the whole game.
It was a lively display from the teenager, who played mainly from the right.
He had five shots at goal in total, and was a real threat for Liam Manning’s side.
When he was taken off, he was given a standing ovation (via Vavel).
A good start for Wolves starlet Theo Corbeanu at MK Dons
Clearly Corbeanu made a good impression last night, which is great to hear.
MK Dons’ Twitter account uploaded a short video clip of him going back onto the pitch at the end of the game.
In response to that, some MK Dons fans left praise for him. There were also some Sheffield Wednesday fans expressing their frustration that he is no longer their player.
Hopefully, Corbeanu can build from this first outing and really flourish in a system he is better suited to.
