Wolves youngster Nigel Lonwijk enjoys best weekend yet on loan at Fortuna Sittard

It was disappointment again for the first-team Wolves players this weekend – but it was a fantastic Saturday for one of the club’s loan players Nigel Lonwijk.

The youngster is currently on a season-long loan at Fortuna Sittard.

He had to be patient for chances, but things are starting to click now for the talented 19-year-old.

Lonwijk was named as a starter for the third game running yesterday against PEC Zwolle, and it was an evening to remember for the former PSV Eindhoven starlet.

Lonwjik was on hand to score his first goal for the club, which is obviously his first in senior football.

His effort turned out to be the winner, which was huge for Sittard, who have moved to within two points of safety in the league table as a result.

It was a superb all-round display from Lonwijk.

He made a whopping 14 clearances and 10 aerial duels in what was a man-of-the-match-display (Sofascore).

By scoring, Lonwjik actually became the youngest Eredivisie goalscorer in Fortuna Sittard’s history.

A brilliant weekend for Wolves youngster Nigel Lonwijk

It is great to see Nigel Lonwijk now starting to make his mark for Fortuna Sittard.

He wasn’t playing so much upon first joining the club.

He didn’t start a game until November 7 against his former club PSV.

But he appears to now be very much a part of Sjors Ultee’s thinking.

It’s great news for Wolves, who no doubt want Lonwijk to be featuring as heavily as possible.

The club have high hopes for the teenager – they would not have sent him out on loan to get senior minutes if they didn’t.

Hopefully, the centre-half can build on this brilliant performance. Who knows, maybe he’ll even stake a claim to be in the first-team next season. That is a desire of his he recently reiterated.
