Wolves staff don’t ‘see a future’ for £35m player at Wolves

Fabio Silva hasn’t lived up to his boundless potential for Wolves since arriving from Porto in 2020, now he could be set to leave.

When Fabio Silva arrived at Molineux in 2020, he was regarded among the finest up-and-coming talents across the globe. That potential he was believed to have had has never quite applied to his Wolves career.

Signed at 18, Silva is now 21 years old and has shown more in loan moves than he ever has for Wolves.

Gary O’Neil was believed to have been a fan of Silva upon arriving, but after months of working together, he is yet to see enough to give him regular minutes. O’Neil did however call for Silva to offer more last month.

It now seems his Wolves career could be on a knife edge, with Wolves coaching staff not seeing.

Silva not seen as having a future at Wolves

Writing on Express and Star, journalist Johnny Phillips gave his verdict on Silva’s future at the club.

“The consensus at Compton is that Fabio Silva has had his chances. The coaching staff do not see a future for him at Wolves, but his departure is not a straightforward issue.

“Whereas some recognise the club must suffer a huge financial hit on the player and make a clean break, those who write the cheques still want to recoup a large sum of money.

“That is surely unrealistic, but it may lead to the player leaving on loan rather than being allowed to depart permanently, despite it being better for all parties if a definitive line was drawn under the episode.”

How much could Wolves get for Silva?

If Wolves were to sell Silva, almost certainly they would see a loss on the £35m they parted with to sign him. CIES have the Portuguese star’s value at just £17.5m but they may be able to squeeze a little more out for him.

Obviously, his potential would need to be accounted for with Silva still absolutely capable of going on to become a top player, no matter how unlikely this looks while he’s at Wolves.

But for this reason, a loan could be more likely, in the hopes he impresses enough for Wolves to make their money back at least. But we wouldn’t hold our breath.
