Wolves will be on red alert after what Celta Vigo manager has said on Fer Lopez returning

If Wolves’ summer transfer window was not already deemed unsuccessful, the constant reports of their latest signings being linked with moves away certainly reinforce that view.

In the last week, Fer Lopez has joined Jhon Arias in being linked away from Molineux, just months after joining the club in the summer from Celta Vigo.

And it is his former side that are in the fray to sign him in January.

It is a situation that has Wolves fans fearing Lopez will be another signing that got away, and he could become a future regret.

Does Fer Lopez deserve more minutes for Wolves?

The rumours have also been fuelled by the La Liga club, with Celta Vigo’s director publicly saying he wants Lopez to return.

Now, those flames will be fanned higher, as the Spanish side’s manager has now chimed in on the situation.

Fer Lopez back to Celta Vigo will not go away, and it will continue to ramp up after what has been said by Claudio Giraldez, the club’s manager.

Giraldez is the coach that developed the attacking midfielder in Celta Vigo’s academy from 2022 up until 2024, when Lopez broke into the first team.

He was then named manager of the Galician club in March 2024, and his trust in the player was evident. The Wolves man played in nine out of ten La Liga matches after Giraldez took over.

Now, the Celta Vigo chief has made a public comment about Lopez, and it could signal bad news ahead of January.

Giraldez said (via El Desmarque), “We talk to Fer a lot, and to many of our former players. We have a special personal relationship with him because I coached him for many years, and I didn’t want him to leave. Obviously, I’d like him to come back; that’s a fact.”

While the manager wants Lopez to return, any deal for him to go back to Celta Vigo is complicated.

La Liga’s salary cap will prove to be an issue in any deal for Fer Lopez. But a transfer should not even be considered anyway.

Fer Lopez was buzzing to sign for Wolves

“It was very hard to leave my boyhood club, but I was very pleased to come here.”

Any Fer Lopez approach should be emphatically rejected

If Celta Vigo do come in for Fer Lopez, there is only one clear answer: an emphatic no, and a refusal to engage in future talks.

The 21-year-old has not been given a chance with the Old Gold, and giving up on him so soon after signing him would be a huge error.

The Spaniard was signed for £19 million, which is no small fee for the Wanderers, and his qualities must be tested adequately before making any final judgement.

Carlos Forbs has said he lacked confidence at Wolves, and if Rob Edwards can prevent the same happening with Lopez, they will have a talented player in their ranks.
