Wolves warned that ‘pathetic’ Matheus Cunha actions could have repercussions for Fosun as well as Vitor Pereira

Matheus Cunha has been the talk of the town for the wrong reasons since Wolves’ FA Cup defeat against Bournemouth.

The Old Gold were moments away from heading into a penalty shoot-out in a bid to secure a spot in the final eight of the FA Cup but instead, disaster struck.

In the 120th minute of the tie, Cunha was sent off for lashing out at Milos Kerkez, picking up a three-match ban from a straight red card.

Vitor Pereira will now be without his star player for the remainder of the month, with Cunha blasted for not learning his lesson following his FA ban back in December.

Pat Nevin weighs in on Matheus Cunha

For all of the brilliance that the Brazilian can offer Wolves, the forward let the club down beyond belief with his actions at the Vitality.

As the Old Gold fight to remain in the Premier League, the last thing Pereira needed was to see his star player suspended for three games due to petulant behaviour.

Some Wolves fans have lost trust in Cunha as a result of the fallout on the South Coast, with many outside of the club also unimpressed with how the 25-year-old carried himself.

In a comment for BBC Sport, former Scotland international Pat Nevin did not hold back when sharing his opinion on the Wolves ace.

“Wolves’ Matheus Cunha gets little sympathy after his red card following a wild temper tantrum against Bournemouth. Hugely talented but utterly uncontrollable would seem the best description,” Nevin wrote, before commenting on Cunha’s previous offences.

“A few weeks back, he ripped the glasses off a steward – not that big and brave.

“This time he threw a one-two combination with his fists that wouldn’t have hurt a five-year-old, before delivering a sneaky little kick that his opponent would scarcely have felt but every camera picked up.

“He then produced a headbutt with all the force of a kiss from your auntie, before causing a scene in the tunnel that was at the intellectual level of a toddler.”

The ex-Everton man then described Cunha as ‘pathetic’ and suggested that he’s not only cost Wolves on the pitch but Fosun also, commenting on how the player will be viewed in the market.

“All a bit pathetic, if you ask me. With brilliant goals – like the one he scored before his hissy fit – and world-class skills, he should be worth fortunes, but he is now considered damaged goods.”

One interested club are already said to be put off by the forward’s actions, as Arsenal aren’t sold on Cunha’s temperament

Speaking to Molineux News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey told us that clubs are now wary of Cunha’s discipline issues, which as Nevin said, could impact Wolves in the summer.

Fosun will be wary of Cunha’s recent behaviour

“It is time to grow up, Matheus,” Nevin said to close his rant, with a statement that plenty of fans will agree with.

Cunha is so important to Wolves and could cost his club dearly by picking up a ban for the most avoidable of reasons.

A further concern comes from above Pereira and the squad, as Nevin shared his belief that clubs eyeing the Brazilian in the summer will see Cunha as ‘damaged goods’.

Such could impact the interest that the forward generates with his £62.5m release clause, with his discipline certainly a stumbling block in the player’s potential.

Could Fosun be impacted by Cunha’s lack of control? Only time will tell as the summer transfer window fast approaches.
