Wolves v Man United ultimate preview: team news, predictions and Gary O’Neil’s thoughts

With Wolves set to host Man United at Molineux, we round up everything you need to know about the fixture including team news, predictions and Gary O’Neil’s thoughts.

Wolves go in Thursday’s game with every chance of coming away with something. The hosts are on a seven game unbeaten run and haven’t lost at home in their last eight.

A victory against West Brom in the FA Cup on the weekend only helped to continue this momentum as O’Neil continues to turn Wolves into a formidable side.

With Premier League action returning once again, the manager will be hoping to take something from Man United. Last time against the Red Devils, Wolves were highly unlucky not to come away with at least a point with VAR once again becoming the talking point

Now, with the two side meeting for the second time this season, here is everything you need to know in the build-up to the game.

The match will be played at Molineux on Thursday night. Kick-off is at 20:15.

If you can’t go to the match, it will be broadcast live on TNT Sports. More games will also be available to watch throughout February with Wolves broadcast once more that month.

How is each team’s form?

Wolves come into the fixture in better form than their opponents. Gary O’Neil’s side have won three of their last five games in the Premier League. In comparison, Man United have only won one in five league games.

The Molineux side will be hoping to continue their great home form once against the Red Devils. With Matheus Cunha and Max Kilman pulling out top performances week after week, O’Neil will be looking towards the duo for the fixture.

After receiving a boost before the West Brom game, O’Neil has once again seen more players return for the upcoming fixture

Three first-teamers could be set to return to the starting lineup against Man United with many having a fantastic season to date.

However, many of these players could offer a selection headache for the manager. First-teamers such as Tommy Doyle have been on fire in recent games and will certainly be looking to continue that trend on Thursday.

Predictions for Wolves v Man United

With both teams close to each other in the table, predictions for the game are tough. Man United are three points above Wolves in ninth while Wolves sit 11th going into the match.

BBC have tried to predict the result and correctly said Wolves would beat West Brom last weekend.

This time, Chris Sutton has opted to go for a draw. However, the guest Matthew Vaughan went for a Wolves win.

A win would be ideal for Wolves to truly give light to their European hopes. While a point would be a good result, three points could well be possible given the clubs form.

O’Neil understands the weight of the challenge Wolves face tomorrow. While form has made some fans look up the table, he is aware that the players must continue to focus and keep pushing onwards.

He told Wolves: “I want the players to have a realistic view on where we are. Their focus should be, and will be purely, on winning the next game. Of course, the more games you win, the more you can start to look upwards. If we lose tomorrow and the teams down the bottom win, we get closer to the bottom, so there’s still a need for realism and how quickly things can change.

“We need to be driven by trying to be successful and a fear of failure. I was always that way as a player, where I didn’t want to fail, and I want the lads to feel that. It can really drive energy and make you focus. It’s important that we have a real understanding. We’re in a middle spot at the moment, not too far away from either, and we need to knuckle down and keep pushing.”
