Wolves are facing a huge summer after being relegated – and Jorge Mendes is a name we could be hearing a fair bit.
The Old Gold will play in the Championship from next season, having had their fate sealed a week ago.
After a terrible 2025 summer window, Wolves have now lost their top-flight status, and a rebuild of the squad is in the offing.
Should any of these NOT be on this list? And are there any who aren’t there who SHOULD be on? 🤔
The Athletic have claimed Wolves would like these nine players to stay after relegation…
Many players will be departing, as Wolves seek to head into the 2026/27 with a squad that will be competitive in the Championship, while also being on a sound financial footing.
Strong recruitment will be absolutely vital. We’ve already seen what failure to prepare can mean.
And one man who looks all set to broker deals at Molineux this summer is Jorge Mendes.

Jorge Mendes set to play a prominent role for Wolves this summer

Journalist Liam Keen has been speaking about the upcoming window for Wolves.
And he makes it clear that Wolves will be turning to the services of Jorge Mendes, which is sure to prompt a mixed response within the fanbase.
Mendes has been responsible for helping Wolves bring in some top players down the years.
But in more recent times he’s also been behind some deals that didn’t work out, such as Emmanuel Agbadou and Marshall Munetsi.
On the latest E&S podcast, a fan wrote in to ask about the extent that Mendes will be used by Wolves this summer.
Keen said: “Inevitably he’ll be involved.
“Let’s look at what’s already been and gone. Even just recently, Strand Larsen, Arias and Agbadou are not his players. They’re not on the Gestifute Agency. But he acted as an intermediary on all those deals for Wolves to get some good money and sell them.
“Wolves got really good money and did some good deals there. I think it was a good setting up of the summer. But it’s important to note he doesn’t manage those players, he’s not the agent of those players. He set up their sales and got Wolves the money they need for them.
“He’s clearly doing the same with Joao Gomes now. Gomes is not his player, Gestifute client, but he’s doing the same. He’s given the mandate by Wolves to work on the club’s behalf to go and get as much money as possible for a player.
“There’s not necessarily anything wrong in the sense that you’re going to get as much money as possible. Although he will take a percentage. I do think it slightly undermines the position of other people in the hierarchy – Matt Jackson, the sporting director, I do think it slightly undermines that.
“Also I think you’ve got to be careful if you’re going to exclusively use one individual consistently. He’s also helped bring players into the club who aren’t his players as well.
He’s been heavily involved in Wolves’ incomings and outgoings, and they’ve had a lot of value out of him let’s be honest, and a lot of good players out of him. Really talented footballers out of him.
“But the success rate has been a lot smaller in the last few years. My concern is any overreliance or overuse of him is going to result in a very muddled summer of recruitment where Wolves don’t get the right players.
Is £40m a fair price for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes this summer? 🤔
The club have reportedly set their asking price for the Brazilian, who cost just £15m in January 2023…
“He’s clearly going to be involved, very clearly. He’s going to be used by the football club. It’s hard to predict to what degree for incomings in terms of his own clients or not. I just hope the club are able to find a balance, I don’t think it’s the right decision to allow him to have autonomy over Wolves’ transfer business.
“He’s in the business of making money. That’s no slight on him, he’s had an unbelievable career and made a hell of a load of money doing it. He’s not in the business of looking after Wolverhampton Wanderers and I think Wolves have to try and make sure that they find the balance.
“It’s a roundabout way of saying he will be heavily involved, but it’s hard to predict to exactly what degree, particularly with incomings. Because we’ll know which players are his or not based on their agency.”
