Wolves fans will watch other clubs in envy of their situation, with Vitor Pereira’s men currently battling at the bottom of the Premier League.
Wolves qualified for the Europa League in 2019 and then recorded back-to-back seventh place finishes in 2020 under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Since those unbelievable years at Molineux, the Old Gold have plummeted down the Premier League table, while former manager Nuno Santo has seen his stock skyrocket.
The Portuguese boss is currently working miracles at Nottingham Forest and as it stands, will be playing Champions League football next season.

Wolves almost signed Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood in 2014
In the summer of 2014, a Wolves side managed by Kenny Jackett were looking for a clinical finisher in the Championship to help galvanise a promotion push.
Chris Wood was the player Wolves wanted to sign. The New Zealand striker was playing for Leicester City at the time, who had just won promotion to the Premier League.
However, despite attempting to bring the forward to Molineux, talks broke down between the clubs, with Jackett admitting defeat.
“It looks like that one has passed now and we’re moving on,” Jackett said via Sky Sports in August 2014. “We didn’t get a deal agreed with the club or the player, we did make an approach but we haven’t made further contact and we’re moving on.
“It is what it is, we have to accept that and it’s something which has come out, we understand, and it’s left me answering the situation.”
Chris Wood’s impressive goal record against Wolves
Wood has since established himself as one of EFL’s greatest ever strikers, and now cemented his name among the Premier League’s elite.
The 33-year-old is enjoying the season of his life at Nottingham Forest with 18 goals in 27 league appearances this term – only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak have found the net more.
Alongside firing Forest into the Champions League places to the surprise of many, Wood has also come back to haunt Wolves over the years.
Club | Chris Wood’s goal record |
Brighton | 24 games / 12 goals |
Huddersfield | 16 games / 9 goals |
Wolves | 20 games / 8 goals |
Leicester | 16 games / 8 goals |
West Ham | 15 games / 8 goals |
The clinical hitman has scored eight goals in 20 appearances against Wolves – joint with Leicester and West Ham – which suggests he enjoys playing the Midlands side.
It’s a case of what could have been when looking at Wood’s potential transfer to Molineux, though he’s only truly showcased his Premier League scoring powers under Nuno.
