At the moment, the only out-and-out defensive midfielder they have is Sergio Busquets.

It is stated that the Spanish veteran is currently going through a bad patch of form.

He made several big mistakes in the recent Champions League game against Inter Milan, and also against Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Barca had wanted to add reinforcements during the last window.

But there were other positions they needed to address first. Ultimately, they decided to press ahead with Busquets as their main man in midfield.

But it would appear to club is now contemplating bringing in a long-term replacement for him sooner than has been reported.

Mundo say Neves is a potential option for the club, but Xavi’s preferred target is Martín Zubimendi of Real Sociedad.

The publication say that Neves has actually already been offer to Barca, and has a market value of around £35 million. His contract at Molineux runs out in the summer of 2024.

That is around half Wolves’ asking price in the last transfer window.

A worrying claim about Ruben Neves, the club must rebuff Barcelona

The Neves to Barcelona rumours just won’t go away, and it is a worry that the Spanish heavyweight’s will indeed come calling for Wolves’ star man.

Wolves need to be standing firm. To sell Neves mid-season, when it looks as though a relegation may be on the cards, would be madness.

The worrying thing is, the Wolves board has sanctioned some really odd decisions in recent times.

The Adama Traore loan move to Barca was really strange. And the Conor Coady loan move to Everton was also an odd one.

Jorge Mendes is reportedly involved which does perhaps make it more likely that something will happen.

Hopefully, Wolves officials will decide that offloading Neves in January would be a foolish decision.
