Wolves told where they rank for VAR decisions overturned in the Premier League since it began

Wolves have been the victim of VAR on far too many occasions over the last few seasons.

Wolves faced off with Manchester City in a Premier League clash last weekend, aiming to end their winless start to the season.

Things got off to a positive start for Gary O’Neil’s men against the champions when Jorgen Strand Larsen fired them into the lead.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side eventually completed a 2-1 comeback to leave the Old Gold sat 20th in the Premier League table.

Manchester City’s comeback was not without controversy, however, with John Stones’ winner vs Wolves standing because of VAR.

Stones headed in from a corner to give his side the lead but after Bernardo Silva was seen to make contact with goalkeeper Jose Sa, the on-field decision was to rule the goal out for offside.

However, referee Chris Kavanagh was advised to review the goal by Stuart Attwell on VAR, which then led to it being given.

Where Wolves rank for VAR decisions overturned in the Premier League

This was not the first and it certainly won’t be the last time VAR has cost the Midlands outfit.

The technology was first introduced to the Premier League in the 2019/20 season and Wolves have been its biggest victim.

Wolves were the only Premier League club to vote against VAR remaining ahead of the current campaign and it is easy to see why.

This comes after analysis revealed that Wolves have now had 13 goals ruled out due to overturned decisions by VAR.

This is more than double of any other side in the top flight since the 2019/20 season, with joint-second-place Leeds United and Norwich City seeing six goals chalked off by VAR.

Wolves hoping to avoid VAR controversy vs Brighton

Wolves face Brighton in a Premier League clash on Saturday and will no doubt be praying the technology does not cost them yet again.

The Midlands outfit go into the game sat 20th in the Premier League and are now without a win in eight.

Chris Sutton predicted Brighton to beat Wolves 2-1 this weekend and another loss could well lead to question marks being asked of O’Nei’s future in the dugout.

Seeing off the Seagulls will prove easier said than done though, as the South Coast outfit began the weekend fifth in the division.
