Wolves told ‘unreal’ £70k-a-week gem would be a ‘dream’ for any manager in the world

Paul Merson has named Hwang Hee-Chan among five of the Premier League’s most underrated players this season.

Hwang Hee-Chan has enjoyed a fruitful season to date at Wolves as he has caught fire under Gary O’Neil.

The South Korean international has scored 10 goals and assisted three this season in the Premier League already despite playing just 20 games.

His absence in the next month, while he plays in the Asian Cup, will be a sore miss for Wolves and he often doesn’t get the praise that his importance commands he should get.

Now, Paul Merson has explained that the forward is actually underrated.

Paul Merson believes Hwang Hee-Chan is underrated

Writing on SportsKeeda, Merson explained: “What Hwang Hee-chan is doing for Wolves at the moment is unreal – he’s scored ten Premier League goals for a team that isn’t particularly free-scoring.

“If he scores another seven league goals, I wouldn’t be shocked if someone comes and takes him at the end of the season. Hwang recently signed a new contract, but I think Wolves have done that just to cover themselves in case one of the big boys make a move for him.”

He then continued to give a verdict on just what makes Hwang so underrated.

“When we talk about goalscorers in the Premier League, Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Son Heung-min undoubtedly get a mention, but in the current campaign, the likes of Dominik Solanke and Jarrod Bowen are getting a mention before Hwang, which is proof that he has continued to slip under the radar despite producing the goods consistently.

“Hwang can play across the forward line and is lightning-quick and sharp, making him a dream for any manager in the world. He’s taken his game to another level this season under Gary O’Neil and is a big part of where Wolves are at the moment.”

Hwang is a league leader and deserves his flowers

Hwang scoring 10 goals for a Wolves side who have at times struggled is a tremendous return and much of the praise for this should come to O’Neil.

Before the Englishman took charge, Hwang was seen primarily as a flop given his poor return in his prior seasons.

Now, however, he’s arguably the most important player at Molineux and his recent new £70k-a-week contract demonstrates that.
