Wolves told they should have copied Aston Villa’s deadline day move

The inactivity from Wolves on deadline day has garnered plenty of criticism.

Wolves made no more signings on the final day of the transfer window, instead holding what they have for the upcoming season.

Tolu Arokodare’s arrival was made official, but outside of that expected announcement, it was crickets around Molineux on Monday.

Plenty of other Premier League sides were making clever signings right down to the last minute, and Sky Sports’ Johnny Phillips has criticised Wolves for not doing the same.

Wolves should have brought in Premier League experience like Aston Villa did with Victor Lindelof

Writing on his Football Unfiltered Substack, Phillips discusses Wolves’ underwhelming window and brings up a smart signing made by Aston Villa.

He writes: “Many fans will have looked on at free agent Victor Lindelof’s move to Aston Villa in the last hours of the window and wondered why Wolves weren’t taking a chance on adding Premier League experience to the squad.”

Indeed, Wolves could and maybe should have looked at the free transfer options with experience in England’s top flight.

But no further signings were made, and now the international break forces fans to take a breather and assess where the squad is at.

Wolves haven’t replaced Premier League experience with new summer signings

Not one new addition to the Wolves squad has played a minute of Premier League football before this season.

In contrast, the players who have left had heaps of experience.

We don’t yet know how well the new arrivals will adjust to the English top flight.

There has been some promise from the likes of Fer Lopez and Jackson Tchatchoua, but we will need a larger sample size to know if signing solely from abroad will have negative repercussions.

Unfortunately, time isn’t something Pereira has much of, as the gap to the pack ahead widens with each passing game.
