Wolves finally announced the signing of Celta Vigo winger Fer Lopez on Friday afternoon, with one stunning comparison now shared.
After initially emerging on their radar a week ago, Lopez has signed a five-year contract at Wolves in a deal worth a reported £19.5 million.
Former Celta Vigo teammate Jorgen Strand Larsen persuaded Lopez to join the club after writing his own success story at Molineux with 14 goals in his debut campaign.
The 21-year-old broke onto the scene at the Spanish side this term and recorded four goal involvements in 20 matches.
It was during that campaign when Lopez was compared to Riyad Mahrez, the former Leicester City and Manchester City icon. Now, he’s been likened to a Real Madrid phenom.

Celta Vigo expert compares Fer Lopez to Jude Bellingham
Some Wolves fans were worried that Lopez was signed to replace Matheus Cunha, who plundered 23 goal involvements in all competitions last season.
Fortunately, he’s one of multiple attacking players set for a move to Wolves this summer, with supporters hoping he can fulfil his huge potential.
Lopez has predominantly operated as an advanced midfielder, utilising his excellent link-up play and incredible technique to outfox defenders.
Celta Vigo expert Jose Riveiro, who watched the Spaniard closely, has even compared his ‘stride and physique’ to Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham.
“Lopez is a high-quality attacking midfielder, left-footed, with a strong physical presence and a great engine,” Riveiro told Wolves official.
“He’s what you’d call a box-to-box player, with a stride and physique somewhat reminiscent of Jude Bellingham – although of course, with important differences in level and experience.
“His ideal role is as a more advanced midfielder – not a holding midfielder – someone who can make runs into the box, carry the ball forward, and link up play. He has excellent vision and tends to move forward more than he sits back. He’s definitely more of an offensive player than a defensive one.”

Lopez outperformed Bellingham across multiple stats
Bellingham has cemented himself as one of the best players on the planet after making his Birmingham City debut as a 16-year-old.
Still only 21, the same age as Lopez, Bellingham is expected to dominate for years and become a Real Madrid legend.
That is why comparisons between Lopez and the Englishman are promising, as despite being so far behind Bellingham in terms of talent, he did outperform him across multiple metrics in La Liga.
2024/25 La Liga stats per 90 | Jude Bellingham | Fer Lopez |
Progressive carries | 2.41 | 3.62 |
Successful take-ons | 1.67 | 2.41 |
Touches (Att pen) | 3.68 | 4.29 |
Non-penalty xG | 0.34 | 0.36 |
The data size is only small considering Wolves’ new signing made just 17 appearances in the league, but if he can step up to the physicality and technical prowess required in the Premier League, he could be an excellent addition.
