Wolves told they have a £4.5m player with a ‘great future’

Villarreal defender Raul Albiol believes that loanee from Wolves Yerson Mosquera has a huge future in the game.

The Colombia international sealed a move to the club last month, after spending a successful year on loan at FC Cincinnati.

Mosquera joined the MLS club in January 2023, with Wolves wanting him to play regularly and improve his English.

He was able to do both of those things, with pathways manager Steve Davis reporting back that it had been an ‘outstanding’ stint for the £4.5 million starlet.

Mosquera is now with Villarreal and it’s an excellent opportunity for him to further his development – and he’s seemingly already made an impression on one of his teammates…

It’s a great move for Mosquera.

After spending a year at Cincinnati, it was important that his next move was a step up, and that is certainly the case with Villarreal in La Liga, which is one of the top leagues.

Wanderers officials will be hoping he can continue playing as much as he can, so that he can return to Wolves ready to make an impact for the first-team.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs recently suggested they were already looking forward to having him back in the summer.

The club have high hopes for Mosquera, and Albiol believes the player has a really bright future from what he’s seen of him so far.

After Mosquera made his debut against Barcelona and his first start against Deportivo Alaves, Albiol said (via Mundo Deportivo): “It’s normal for me to help him and for him to help me because at the end of the day we’re in a zone where we have to help each other for the good of the team.

“Yerson has great conditions, he is a very happy kid, who has come with the desire to help the team and I think that a great future awaits him because he has a lot of projection. We will help him here for as long as he stays.”

Encouraging comments from veteran Albiol

It is great to hear such praise for Mosquera, from a player who has been around the block.

Albiol is 38 now and has had a successful career in Spain playing for the likes of Real Madrid, Valencia and Villarreal. He also spent a number of years at Napoli over in Italy.

Albiol has won eight trophies at club level, and was also a part of the Spain squad that won the 2008 and 2012 Euros, and the 2010 World Cup.

He’s been a great defender, and so it is encouraging to hear someone like him rating Mosquera.

Mosquera was really unlucky in his first season with Wolves, as he picked up a serious hamstring injury on his debut that resulted in him not playing for the rest of that season.

He’s had to be very patient, but hopefully his time at Molineux will come next season after a successful loan spell at Villarreal
