Wolves told they are now ‘better’ for one thing under Gary O’Neil than Nuno

Wolves are enjoying a terrific season and fans have loved watching the team under Gary O’Neil this season – and talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan believes the team are ‘a better watch’ than under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wanderers enjoyed their best result of the season at the weekend, beating Chelsea 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Matheus Cunha scored hat-trick for Wolves, becoming only the fourth player to do so at Chelsea’s home ground.

Cunha gave Chelsea defenders the runaround, as did his fellow attacker Pedro Neto, and it was just a superb team performance from Wolves, who moved up to 10th in the table as a result.

Fans are loving how much Wolves have improved in the final third – and Simon Jordan believes Gary O’Neil’s side are a better watch than Nuno’s Wolves…

So far this season, Wolves have plundered 37 goals in the Premier League, which is six more than htye managed in the whole of the last campaign.

Wolves have also scored a further 13 in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup matches.

Wolves have been a delight to watch at times this season, with the likes of Cunha, Neto and Hwang Hee-chan particularly exciting flair players.

For many, this is the most exciting Wolves team for some time, with captain Max Kilman insisting earlier this week that it is the most attacking side he’s been in since his arrival.

Simon Jordan was speaking about Wolves yesterday, and reckons they are now easier on the eye than the team Nuno had in his first couple of years.

He said: “They’ve been there (mid-table) before. Don’t forget when Nuno took them up they were quite a good watch when they first came up. I think they are a better watch now.

“They’re a good football club. I knew it when Jack Hayward was there. It’s always been a big football club, all the way back to when Billy Wright played for them. You look at it and say it’s doing well inside the Premier League and they were punching their weight, with a young English manager Gary O’Neil, (he’s) doing very well.”

System change is helping Wolves’ players thrive

There is certainly an argument for Wolves now being a better watch than under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno did have Wolves playing some great stuff when he first came in, and obviously Wanderers won the Championship, finishing on 99 points and scoring 82 goals in 46 games under him.

They were then fantastic in those first couple of seasons back in the Premier League, being difficult to breach and speedy on the counter with players like Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez.

But O’Neil’s Wolves are turning into a very exciting outfit indeed – and it’s mainly thanks to the manager changing the system to suit the individuals at his disposal.

You’ve got Nelson Semedo and Rayan Ait-Nouri playing as wing-backs now, and both of these attack-minded players are having terrific seasons in positions they are much more comfortable in.

There are three solid defenders in Max Kilman, Craig Dawson and Toti Gomes, who get protection from the superb midfield double act of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes.

Then you’ve got Hwang Hee-chan, Pedro Neto and Matheus Cunha, who are lethal counter attackers, and are all great arriving in the box.
