Wolves told Joao Gomes could dominate in the Premier League

Joao Gomes could ‘dominate’ in the Premier League and will eventually become ‘better’ than Wolves.

That is the view of South American football expert Nathan Joyes, who was speaking on The Copa Club Podcast.

Gomes is about to start gearing up for a big season at Wolves.

He joined the club in January from Flamengo in a £15 million deal and has so far looked really promising.

But now, Ruben Neves has left the club. As has Joao Moutinho.

Potentially, this paves the way for Gomes to become a regular starter at Molineux.

And in the eyes of Joyes, Wolves have a serious talent on their hands.

According to Joyes, Wolves fans ought to be very hopeful over Gomes given his potential.

Speaking with his special guest, Bundesliga commentator Kevin Hatchard, he said: “(At Flamengo) Sat in front of a back four and his job was to marshal and break up play. There were snippets of him where he was advancing with the ball.

“We saw him quite restricted at Flamengo. Maybe, in the Premier League, that number six role is completely changing. Yes he is being nurtured into that Wolves team, we only saw him towards the end of the season. His transfer deal took an age to get over the line.

“He made the right choice, for me, to come to the Premier League over Lyon. I think he was torn between the two.

“He definitely has the ability to come and dominate the Premier League if he wants to.

Joao Gomes has serious potential and hopefully he sticks around for a while

This is quite an exciting verdict, from someone who has seemingly watched Gomes a fair bit when he was playing for Flamengo.

There is definitely reason to be very excited about Gomes.

We haven’t seen an awful lot of him so far. But when Julen Lopetegui chucked him in for those games against Chelsea and Brentford when Neves was suspended, he looked fantastic.

So potentially, once he gets a bit more used to the Premier League, he could become really influential for Wolves.

The club are said to be very excited about him and Boubacar Traore.

Hopefully, he works as hard as possible and takes on everything Lopetegui tells him in order to realise his exciting potential.

And Gomes is already adored at Wolves, so hopefully he will be sticking around for a while.
