Wolves teenager primed and ready having outscored Vitor Pereira’s forwards this season

Wolves are already looking to the January window to add some quality to their attack.

Though Vitor Pereira has done well to address vulnerabilities at the back in recent games, scoring goals is still proving a challenge for Wolves.

The report of Wolves’ interest in Pablo Garcia highlights the need for more talent in the wide areas.

With the implementation of a back four, there aren’t wing-backs operating further up the pitch. The onus now falls on the attackers to provide the width. It’s a different profile that Wolves are short on, so, understandably, they are looking at options.

But as we have been saying for some time now, there is a young forward in the academy who looks ready to emerge.

Wolves teenager Mateus Mane is only getting better

18-year-old Mateus Mane has been electric in Premier League 2 this season.

He added a goal and an assist to his tally on Tuesday night against Wigan Athletic’s senior team.

That takes him to two goals and two assists in five games for the Wolves U-21s, which is far more than any Wolves player has managed for the senior team this season. No player has more than one of either.

Like most modern forwards, Mane is able to play across the front line, has great pace and a real eye for goal. He made his Premier League debut towards the end of last season, the youngest to do so for Wolves.

But Mane is yet to be called upon by Pereira this season.

Pereira’s hesitance is understandable, but…

Wolves are in a difficult moment.

Bringing in a teenager to make meaningful contributions is much more of a risk when you’re low down in the standings. A costly mistake from the player could be enough to ruin confidence, not to mention the heat Pereira would take for the decision.

But Wolves are looking flat up front at the moment. They haven’t been able to build on the leads they have taken in recent games, and it has cost them valuable points.

Mane has been the best player for the U-21s this season, playing with guys two or three years his senior and standing out.

We have seen a 15-year-old appear in the Premier League this season. Why not give Mane a chance?
