Wolves might regret not signing one reported target of Gary O’Neil’s during the summer transfer window.
The summer window was certainly a two-sided tale at Molineux ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
While the Old Gold recruited several upcoming star talents, O’Neil and Matt Hobbs were unable to secure the central defensive signing that was so desperately needed.
As a result, Wolves are incredibly short in the position this season, representing one mistake that was made during the transfer window.

Wolves showed interest in Samuel Omorodion
As expected, the Old Gold were linked with a mass of talent over the span of the summer transfer window, with only eight actually being signed by Hobbs and O’Neil.
One of those rumoured to be eyed at Molineux was Samuel Omorodion, known as Samu, who eventually signed for FC Porto in August.
The Portuguese club sealed the striker’s signature for just €15m (£12.7m), a price that would have been considered affordable at Wolves.
Links between the Midlands club and the forward came from HITC, who reported back in April that Wolves were one of the sides ‘interested’ in the forward.
The report detailed the similarities between Samu’s position at the time at Atletico Madrid and how Wolves signed Diogo Jota, describing the 20-year-old as a possibly ‘excellent addition’ to O’Neil’s squad.
Instead, the promising Spaniard signed for Porto and has thrived ever since, with his latest performance surely leaving O’Neil and Hobbs thinking something along the lines of ‘what if’.
Samu is shining this season
Most recently, Samu featured for Spain U21 against Malta U21 in the U21 European Championship qualifiers.
The match ended in a 6-0 win for Spain, with the striker responsible for four of the goals, numbers made even more remarkable as he only played 59 minutes of the game.
The question asked about strikers coming from abroad to the Premier League is whether they can adapt to the demands of the English game, something Samu has shown he can do.
During Porto’s Europa League game against Manchester United, the 2004-born ace scored twice, netting three goals in only two appearances in the competition.
The rumoured Wolves target’s form is reflected in Portugal’s top flight, scoring four in five appearances, suggesting that O’Neil and Hobbs missed a trick by not further exploring the striker.
At this moment, missing out on Samu’s talent is another name on the list of Wolves’ errors in the summer, with the 20-year-old showing the world what he’s capable of.
