Wolves striker Raul Jimenez joins up with Mexico squad ahead of World Cup

Raul Jimenez has joined back up with the Mexico squad, ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

The 31-year-old made a brief return to Wolves, having just spent a few weeks back in his homeland with medical staff from the national team.

The star was pictured training outdoors at Compton Park last week.

Steve Davis was still unable to provide a return date for Jimenez, when asked about him ahead of the game with Brighton.

Now, Jimenez is back with the national team, joining them in Spain ahead of the World Cup.

Fox Sports journalist Ruben Rodriguez reported that he landed yesterday evening, and even provided a video arriving at the team’s base.

Some Wolves fans had hoped that Jimenez might have been able to have some involvement this week.

Wanderers have two games left to play before the suspension for the World Cup.

On Wednesday it’s Leeds United at home in the Carabao Cup. And at the weekend, it’s another home game against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

But it very much appears he will not be featuring now.

It’s clear at this point that the big focus for Jimenez is playing in the World Cup for Mexico.

The lack of communication from the club around Jimenez’s injury has led to skepticism from some fans.

Some have found it frustrating that he has barely spent any time at the club in recent weeks. With the World Cup just around the corner, it does seem that being fit for that is his priority.

There has been a feeling of perhaps not wanting to jeopardise his chances of playing at the tournament, and there have been suggestions from some that he’s been ‘saving himself’.

Hopefully that is not the case, because obviously, Wolves have really struggled to score goals in recent weeks and need a fit-and-firing striker.
