Wolves striker Patrick Cutrone was on target for Empoli yesterday for only the second time since his loan move there and the goal he scored was a bizarre one.
The Italian has endured a frustrating time with the Serie A club so far.
The 23-year-old has made 15 appearances up to now.
Yesterday was arguably his best moment for the club.
Empoli had a tough match against Napoli, who are fighting it out at the top of the table.
They had only lost twice in the league heading into the match. But Empoli ran out 1-0 winners at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
And it was an extremely bizarre goal that sealed the points for the visitors.
An inswinging corner came in and Cutrone lept to make contact but could quite reach.
A Napoli defender got to the ball behind him and in trying to head the ball away, actually headed the ball against the back of Cutrone’s head.
Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina couldn’t keep it out such was the pace on the ball.
It has been a tough time for Cutrone, 23, so far since sealing a move on loan.
Wolves will hope this will now be the turning point.
Wolves star Patrick Cutrone has to kick on after bizarre goal for Empoli
It was a very strange goal, but Cutrone won’t mind one bit how they come.
That was his first in Serie A for almost two months. And it was only his second since joining the club.
Of his 15 appearances, yesterday’s outing at Napoli was only his ninth start so he’ll be hoping to keep his place after a rare goal.
Realistically, Cutrone is in last-chance saloon this season if he has any intention of featuring for the Wolves first-team.
Wolves will surely seek to cut their losses next summer if he doesn’t do the business.
