It was not a good day at the office for Wolves on Saturday – but it was a proud career moment for Diego Costa, who made his 100th appearance in the Premier League.
Julen Lopetegui’s side slipped up against the Cherries, losing 1-0 thanks to a goal from Marcus Tavernier against the run of play.
The result has dragged Wolves right back into the relegation battle, and Friday’s game with Fulham has now become much bigger.
Against Bournemouth, Lopetegui started with Matheus Cunha through the middle.
The Brazilian struggled, and there is currently a debate raging on about his best position.
The man who replaced him was Costa, and that was 100th appearance in the Premier League – 11 for Wolves and 89 across three seasons for Chelsea.
Costa is without doubt one of the best strikers the Premier League has seen.
He was hugely impressive at Chelsea, and was an absolute nightmare for defenders.
Sadly for Wolves, there is absolutely no sign of that player any more, and no one really expected there would be.
The 34-year-old was signed as a free agent following the season-ending injury to Sasa Kalajdzic.
By many accounts, he has been a fantastic addition to the squad and is a real character in the dressing room.
And his popularity is reflected in his latest Instagram post about his 100th appearance in the Premier League.
A number of Wolves stars responded including Yerson Mosquera, Mario Lemina, Matheus Nunes and Pablo Sarabia.
Joao Moutinho probably provided the best comment. He wrote ‘bicho’, which translates to ‘animal’.
