Several Wolves stars have commented on Toti Gomes’ Instagram post, after the star was handed a shock Premier League debut yesterday.

Bruno Lage threw a big curveball with his starting XI, getting Gomes into the team after only just being recalled from his loan spell with Swiss outfit Grasshoppers.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

The Swiss Super League is currently on a winter break, and so Wolves decided to get Gomes back.

It seems Lage liked what he had seen from the youngster in training. So he decided to put his faith in him to play the Romain Saiss’ position – on the left of the back three.

It was going to be a big test for Gomes, but the Portuguese defender rose to the occasion.

He looked very comfortable throughout, both on the ball and with his tackling and positioning.

Saiss has raised the bar very high. But Gomes came in and did a stellar job, considering it was his Premier League debut.

After the game, Lage hailed the youngster – who celebrates his 23rd birthday today. He said (via Express & Star): “He has just trained two or three times with us, working the strategy and the way we play, and we decided to play him instead of changing too many players.

“The kid did very well. It’s a question of opportunity for him.”

Gomes could not have asked for his debut to have gone much better. And the player took to Instagram to react.

He wrote: “Delighted and without words to describe this day.

“Grateful for the opportunity to make my debut at Premier League but especially for @Wolves. Great home win today, the fans were amazing.”

A number of Wolves players such as Conor Coady, Jose Sa and Yerson Mosquera.

Nelson Semedo summed things up pretty well, writing ‘Maquina’, which translates to ‘Machine’.

Toti Gomes looked at home on Premier League debut for Wolves

Lage must be delighted with how Gomes fared on his Premier League debut yesterday.

He could have been forgiven for making a mistake or two, or showing nervousness.

But he looked totally at home, and didn’t really give the speedy Nathan Tella anything.

With Saiss’ Morocco having reached the knockout stages of AFCON, he’ll now be away for a little longer than some Wolves fans would have hoped.

But Gomes has shown that he might just be a solid replacement.
