Wolves stars and Bruno Fernandes react as Daniel Podence wins Europa Conference League

Daniel Podence became a European champion on Wednesday – and some Wolves stars have now reacted on social media.

The forward played for Olympiacos in the 1-0 win against Fiorentina at the OPAP Arena in Athens, and rounded off his brilliant season in the best way.

It was Ayoub El Kaabi who got the game’s only goal, striking deep into extra-time. He nodded in at the near post, and Olympiacos then held on.

Podence didn’t really have his best game in the final.

But the 28-year-old has been tremendous for Olympiacos all season, and finishes their campaign with 15 goals and 13 assists to his name.

It’s a wonderful moment for him – and some of his Wolves teammates have now reacted on social media…

Podence has certainly played his part for Olympiacos this season.

He left Wolves on loan after the club could not offload him permanently, rejoining the club Wanderers paid £17 million to sign him from.

Podence has loved his time there and recently expressed his happiness, potentially suggesting he is ready to turn his move permanent.

Podence left Wolves last summer with Gary O’Neil having suggested that the player was not aligned with their goals.

He had been kept away from the first-team while his future was being sorted out, and the situation was a bit strange. In the end, he departed and the decision has proven to be the right one for all parties.

But there are no ill feelings towards Podence from the Wolves players, and several have reacted to his great achievement with Olympiacos on Wednesday.

Podence has posted on Instagram, writing the caption: “🤯🤯🤯❤️❤️❤️ HISTORY @olympiacosfc @europacnfleague.”

The following Wolves players commented:

Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes was also pleased for the star, affectionately writing ‘You play too shorty ❤️’.

A big night for Podence

So Podence is now a European champion, and that must certainly be a special feeling.

Ultimately, many footballers want to win trophies, and this is now the fourth one he has won in his career, after a Greek league title with Olympiacos in 2020, a league title and cup with Sporting CP, and a League cup with Moreirense.

It would be no surprise now if Podence pushed hard to stay at Olympiacos. Wolves are not expected to try and reintegrate the player back at Molineux.

It is just about whether Olympiacos can pay what Wolves will ask for.

If there is no option to buy, and there have been conflicting reports on that, then Wolves may well hope that other clubs come to the table and a bidding war can break out.
