Wolves starlet cuts emotional figure after being given red card for moment of madness

Wolves youngster Enso Gonzalez has gone from hero to zero, after getting sent off for Paraguay at the U20 World Cup.

A few days ago, Gonzalez made headlines for scoring a great goal against Panama in Paraguay’s first group stage match.

The Wolves attacker arrived late into the box and scored in emphatic fashion, and Paraguay won that game 3-2.

The hope was that Gonzalez would then build on that goal in the next game against South Korea.

But unfortunately, the South American starlet made headlines for the wrong reasons last night.

This U20 World Cup is a big opportunity for Gonzalez.

Gonzalez unfortunately missed all of last season after sustaining an ACL injury at the 2024 Olympic Games, and so, he is now looking to make up for lost time.

He did not head out on loan ahead of 2025/26, with the plan from Wolves seemingly for the forward to get minutes in the academy.

He’s currently with Paraguay at the U20 World Cup, but now Gonzalez will be suspended for the final group stage match with Ukraine.

On the stroke of half-time against South Korea at the Elías Figueroa Brander stadium, Gonzalez was sent off for kicking out at Son Seung-min.

He was dispossessed firmly but fairly, but he unfortunately let his emotions get the better of him.

It was a big shame, because it had been a busy display from Gonzalez up to that point – he had contested 13 duels (via Sofascore), which was only bettered by David Fernandez (14) who played for 25 minutes longer than the Wolves man.

Versus report that Gonzalez had ‘stood out’ in the game before his dismissal.

A video clip is surfacing on X showing Gonzalez looking emotional and regretful, as he took up his seat to watch the rest of the game after being dismissed.

A learning curve for Gonzalez

This will be a learning curve for Gonzalez.

It can be so easy to get frustrated on a football pitch, but it is paramount to keep emotions in check and not let down the team.

Fortunately for Paraguay, they went on to draw the game 0-0 which is not too bad after losing Gonzalez.

However, had he stayed on, Paraguay could have gone on to win and gotten out of the group.

If they lose to group leaders Ukraine in the last game and there is a victor between Panama or South Korea, they could crash out of the tournament.
