Young Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Christian Marques still hasn’t made his debut for Belensenses yet.
The 18-year-old is spending the season on loan with the Portuguese outfit.
The decision was taken by the club, after Marques had featured for the Wolves’ first-team in pre-season.
He made a couple of appearances, as new manager Bruno Lage assessed his squad.
Marques is seen as one of the top youngsters at Wolves.
There are high hopes for him at Compton Park.
He was named Academy Player of the Season at the end of 2019/20.
Ahead of the current campaign, it was decided that he needed to go out on loan and experience senior football.
Unfortunately for Marques, it has not been a great start.
The defender is yet to make a single appearance for the first-team.
Belenenses are currently struggling and sit in the relegation zone.
It appears manager Petit doesn’t yet trust the Wolves youngster to come in and do a job for his side.
Not ideal for Wolves
Marques having not yet made his debut will be a frustration for Wolves.
They have sent him out so he can play.
The fact they facilitated a loan move for him at the age of 18 speaks volumes about how they view him.
The club are ready to step up his development early, because they believe in his potential.
Belenenses struggling early doors is not the most ideal situation. There is a chance that Petit will feel reluctant to turn to Marques and call on some of his more senior options to help pull them out of trouble.
Hopefully, the technically-gifted talent gets a show of faith soon and Wolves don’t have to think about uprooting him.
