Wolves star who played a blinder against Spurs named in Troy Deeney’s ‘Team of the Week’

Wolves are on the cusp of guaranteeing their Premier League survival.

Wolves’ recent win against Spurs means the side have won four on the bounce — the first time in over half a century the side have taken 12 points from a possible 12 in the top flight.

Rayan Ait-Nouri had one of his best games in a Wolves shirt against Spurs

Rayan Ait-Nouri was excellent against Spurs. The Algerian’s performance heaped the pressure on Ange Postecoglou.

The 23-year-old opened the game’s scoring inside the first two minutes and remained a driving force throughout.

Not only did Ait-Nouri score, but he also registered an assist for Jorgen Strand Larsen just after the hour mark.

The wing-back’s attacking contributions kept Spurs on their toes all match and allowed Wolves to keep on the front foot for large spells.

Included in Troy Deeney’s ‘Team of the Week’

Following such an impressive performance, Troy Deeney has included Ait-Nouri in his BBC Sport ‘Team of the Week’.

“I thought he was the player of the weekend,” Deeney said. “In the week that Wolves – not mathematically, but fundamentally – are staying up, they could have taken their foot off the gas and relaxed.

“He went better, Wolves got better. A goal and an assist. He was excellent marauding down that left-hand side and caused Spurs no end of trouble.”

While there is a distinct possibility Matheus Cunha leaves in the summer, Wolves fans will be hoping Ait-Nouri sticks around.

The African is proving his worth, especially when going forward, and with Hugo Bueno set to return from his loan with Feyenoord, Ait-Nouri will be expected to go from strength to strength to keep his place, and that bodes well for performance levels next season.
