Wolves star Matheus Cunha offers four-word reaction after promising injury update emerges

Wolves star Matheus Cunha is close to returning to action after a lengthy injury lay-off and the Brazilian has now taken to Instagram to react to the news.

Matheus Cunha has missed almost a month of fixtures after picking up a hamstring injury in last month’s defeat against Brentford.

The Brazilian has been a key player for Gary O’Neil this term and has come of age since transitioning into a centre-forward role.

With 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions, Cunha has significantly improved under the tutelage of O’Neil and has truly thrived in an exciting Wolves set-up.

Luckily, it doesn’t appear that the Old Gold have long to wait to see the 24-year-old back in action as he was pictured returning to first-team training yesterday.

The news comes at a perfect time in the build-up to tomorrow’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Coventry City and whilst there are no updates to suggest he will be fit enough to make the squad, Cunha has taken to Instagram to react to the news.

He captioned the post ‘Guess who is back’ which could hint at him playing some part against the Sky Blues, but it is more likely he’s just referencing the fact he’s back in training.

Ahead of such an important period in their season, it’s such a massive boost seeing the Brazilian return to training as Wolves attempt to advance into the FA Cup semi-finals and qualify for Europe.

Matheus Cunha’s turnaround has been magnificent

Last summer, many felt that Wolves had been scammed out of £44m when Cunha’s loan move from Atletico Madrid was made permanent.

The Brazilian netted just twice in the Premier League for Julen Lopetegui’s side last term and foraged a reputation for impressively creating chances without taking them.

Fast forward to the present day and the Wolves forward, who was labelled as “phenomenal” by skipper Max Kilman, was one of the most in-form strikers in the top flight before he was struck down by injury.

In six matches, he bagged four goals and served up three assists, including an impressive hat-trick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Cunha has also proven he’s more than just a finisher in front of goal, he’s excellent at linking play and driving his team forward.

This is demonstrated by the fact he ranks in the top 5% of strikers across Europe’s top five leagues for progressive carries and the top 4% for successful take-ons.

Wolves will hope he can continue supplying a killer goalscoring touch once he returns to the starting XI.
