Wolves have a player who’s performing at a higher level than England international Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It’s difficult to imagine Wolves outperforming Liverpool at this moment in time, given the dreary start to the season that Gary O’Neil’s side have experienced.
Unlike Arne Slot’s thriving side, the Old Gold have struggled to find their groove, going over six months without a Premier League win.
That being said, Liverpool’s star man Alexander-Arnold is playing catch up with one of O’Neil’s key figures when it comes to an impressive statistic.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is outperforming Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold
Despite Wolves’ terrible start to the campaign, there have been several top performers for the Old Gold, including defender Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Performing at the top level has become the norm for the Algerian, who has had his Wolves career turned around O’Neil after being frozen out by Julen Lopetegui.
With five goal contributions in his opening nine league appearances this season, the Midlands club are continuing to reap the benefits of the left-back’s versatility, with very few operating at his level.
That includes right-back extraordinaire Alexander-Arnold, who is way behind Ait-Nouri when it comes to goal contributions per 90 in the league.
As per FBref, the Liverpool star averages 0.12 goals and assists per 90, whereas Wolves’ Algerian averages a stellar 0.61.
The figure places Ait-Nouri among the top 2% of fullbacks in the Premier League, emphasising the importance of his presence in O’Neil’s lineup.
Wolves transfer rumours: Liverpool want to sign Ait-Nouri
No one at Wolves can match what Ait-Nouri offers to the side, as the £10m signing continues to showcase his vast array of skill in all areas.
While O’Neil is aware of what the left-back can offer, the manager may not have a choice when it comes to possibly losing the defender in the near future.
According to TBR, Liverpool want to fuse Ait-Nouri and Alexander-Arnold on the flanks, with the Reds eyeing the Wolves star as a possible replacement for Andy Robertson.
The report details that the Merseyside giants are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old, with interesting mounting again as Robertson’s ship at Anfield seems to have sailed.
It will be interesting to see how the Old Gold navigate the rumours, and whether Liverpool attempt to make a move for O’Neil’s prized defender in the near future.
