Wolves stance on a new contract for Vitor Pereira now transfer deadline day is over

Despite a tough start to the season, Wolves fans aren’t putting the blame on Vitor Pereira.

Arriving at the club at a difficult time last season, Vitor Pereira has been exceptional for Wolves.

He took the club to Premier League safety with a complete turnaround in form and has become a fan favourite around Wolverhampton.

But his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and a decision will have to be made in the coming weeks/months on the Portuguese manager’s future.

Wolves and Vitor Pereira in agreement over contract situation

Summarising Wolves’ transfer window for the Daily Mail, Tom Collomosse finished by discussing Pereira’s expiring contract.

It doesn’t appear to be causing issues internally, as he explains: “The contract situation will be addressed now the transfer window is closed, but neither side sees the need to be hasty. Wolves have yet to score a point, and the priority has to be to improve results quickly.”

Collomosse mentions the four-year extension handed to Gary O’Neil and his staff before the start of last season, and acknowledges that Wolves won’t want a repeat of that mistake.

But there’s optimism that a deal can be reached, just not before a Premier League point has been scored, anyway.

Wolves need to weather this storm and a contract should be agreed swiftly

As mentioned, Wolves won’t want a repeat of the Gary O’Neil situation, and will be waiting for a sign that Pereira hasn’t lost last season’s magic.

Once we go a bit deeper into the season and (hopefully) start to get results, an agreement should follow shortly after.

As Collomosse explains: “Pereira knows the game, too. If all sides agree he should have a new contract, negotiations would proceed swiftly, given the relationship between chairman Jeff Shi and Gestifute, who represent Pereira.”

Despite the early-season struggles at Wolves, pinning the blame on Pereira doesn’t make sense.

Wolves have lost some of their most important players from last season, and Pereira has given no indication that he won’t be able to get the most out of this new group.

But patience may be required.
