Wolves set to earn significant financial boost this season as Vitor Pereira gets bargaining chip

Wolves continued their incredible rise up the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as Leicester City were the latest club to feel the wrath of Vitor Pereira’s men.

Wolves’ convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City at Molineux was the first time since 1970 the Wanderers have won six top-flight games in a row.

Matheus Cunha, who is set to join Manchester United, put any speculation surrounding his future behind him when he stepped onto the pitch with a goal and two assists.

Meanwhile, Jorgen Strand Larsen also equalled Raul Jimenez’s debut campaign at the club by netting his 13th of the season.

It was another brilliant afternoon for Pereira’s side as Wolves did the double over Leicester for the first time since 1958, while a significant financial windfall is set to come their way.

Wolves set for financial windfall for higher Premier League finish

From being nailed on to battle relegation right to the wire to rapidly rising up the table, Pereira deserves immense credit for transforming the club from top to bottom.

The Wanderers were inside the bottom three and four points from safety when Gary O’Neil was sacked, and as it stands, Wolves are now in 13th position and a whopping 20 points above 17th place Ipswich Town.

A bad season is now turning into a good one for the Old Gold, and it isn’t just on the pitch where they’re benefitting from Pereira’s methods, as it’s also leading to financial gain.

As pointed out by journalist Alex Richards, Wolves have gone from earning £8.5 million in prize money for finishing 18th when the boss tookover to potentially earning £22.5 million if they end up in 13th.

Premier League positions prize money
11th – £28.2 million
12th – £25.4 million
13th – £22.5 million
14th – £19.7 million
15th – £16.9 million
16th – £14 million
17th – £11.3 million
18th – £8.5 million

That will hand Pereira an extra £14 million currently, which he can use as a bargaining chip when it comes to his demands for the 2025/26 campaign and the terms of a new contract.

Fosun can’t afford to slip up

Managers of Pereira’s ilk don’t come around often. Wolves had to go through Bruno Lage, Julen Lopetegui and O’Neil after Nuno Espirito Santo to find him.

What he’s done for the football club is simply sensational and if he’s backed in the transfer window, who knows what they could go onto achieve?

That is why it’s a big if, Fosun has a track record of not backing managers, and with his self-sustaining model likely to be in action, a big budget isn’t expected.

Pereira could quickly see why other managers struggled to work under the ownership if he isn’t backed but hopefully, lessons are learned.

The owners surely know that not giving the 56-year-old everything he wants could be detrimental, as that is ultimately what he deserves.
