Wolves set to adopt new recruitment strategy ahead of Rob Edwards era as January claim made

Wolves are set to announce Rob Edwards as their manager – and there is also set to be a new approach in terms of recruitment.

Wolves are entering a new era, with Vitor Pereira having been sacked recently after overseeing a terrible start to the new season.

After Gary O’Neil withdrew from the process last week, Wolves turned their attention to Rob Edwards.

The move for Edwards has led to criticism from fans and pundits alike, with Middlesbrough supporters especially unhappy.

But this is the job of a lifetime for Edwards, and he felt he could not pass the opportunity up.

Edwards hasn’t actually been confirmed yet, but official word should arrive soon. And amid the start of his era at Molineux, it seems Wolves are set to take a slightly different approach to things in January.

Much has been made of Wolves’ 2025 summer transfer window.

The general consensus is that it was a really poor window, with too many players arriving without Premier League experience.

Several game-changing players and dependable performers left, and now Wolves’ squad is much weaker than it was last season.

It was previously claimed that Wolves bent to Domenico Teti and Vitor Pereira’s desires over recruitment, but with the duo now gone, the club will adopt a different approach.

According to the Daily Mail, the plan now is to lean more on the recruitment team, who have apparently long felt frustrated over previous managers ignoring them.

They will be given more responsibility, and Matt Jackson – who is Wolves’ director of player recruitment and development – is set to have a stronger voice following Teti’s exit.

Journalist Liam Keen has stated that Wolves could eventually restructure again, although nothing is imminent on that.

With Wolves staring relegation squarely in the face right now, the January transfer window is going to be absolutely vital for the club.

It has been clear to see that this squad is severely lacking, both in terms of quality and experience.

Liam Keen has previously reported that a new midfielder will be high on the agenda for Wolves, and there may also be a move for a new number 10 or wide forward.

Perhaps it’s already too late for Wolves to survive. But if there’s to be any chance of survival then the club need strong recruitment in the next window.

But news of the recruitment team having a greater say again is surely positive, and hopefully Rob Edwards can strike up a good working relationship with them.
