It’s been a hectic day at Wolves, but it looks as though Gary O’Neil has managed to survive the chop.
Wolves were thrashed 4-0 by Everton last night at Goodison Park in what was one of the club’s worst results of the season so far.
Fans chanted against O’Neil at Goodison Park last night, and most expected him to be sacked today.
With the West Ham United game coming up on Monday though, it appears Fosun are giving him one last chance. Or potentially, they may sack him even if he wins that game.
On a day when O’Neil actually took his press conference a day earlier than usual, here’s a round-up of some of the day’s news stories.
Gary O’Neil to remain as Wolves manager for West Ham clash

O’Neil is set to remain in charge of Wolves for the game against West Ham.
It was a decision that left many fuming, as hardly anyone can see how he turns the situation around.
O’Neil actually held his press conference today, rather than Friday as he normally does, which felt strange.
O’Neil talked up having ‘special’ moments with the Wolves fans, and it was all a bit bizarre against a backdrop of fan fury about his position as head coach.
Wolves have held Graham Potter talks
It was claimed today that Wolves actually held talks with Graham Potter recently about potentially taking over at the club.
But Potter was said to have concerns about the state of the club, and potentially not having the resources to keep Wolves in the Premier League.
Potter has also been linked with the West Ham United job, with Julen Lopetegui also under massive pressure there.
Potter has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in April 2023.
Mario Lemina comments after Everton defeat
The actual game against Everton feels a long time ago now given how O’Neil has dominated the headlines today.
But there is no escaping how abject the loss was. Everton could easily have won by more goals.
Mario Lemina spoke after the game, and passionately defended O’Neil, insisting the current situation is on the players. He said: “To be honest, we are with the Gaffer. It’s our fault. We are the characters on the pitch, and we need to show that we’ve got the mentality to play in the Premier League.”
£10 million man Lemina also appeared to question some players in the Wolves squad, suggesting only three or four were actually showing the right mentality.
