Wolves player warned he’s disappointing Vitor Pereira – he could impact January transfer plan

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira got to work promptly in the January transfer window to bolster his squad.

Wolves welcomed Emmanuel Agbadou to strengthen in central defence, with Pereira expected to sign another defender following the Ivorian’s arrival.

While Wolves set out to sign a defender long before the January window opened, it’s not the only position that the manager wants to strengthen.

Former captain Mario Lemina could leave Wolves this month, paving the way for Pereira to scan the market for a new midfielder.

Concern about Tommy Doyle at Wolves

After Andre signed on deadline day from Fluminense, many were puzzled by the transfer, given how strong Wolves were in central midfield.

Despite being well stocked, the Brazilian’s arrival could actually prompt Pereira to re-enter the market for one peculiar reason.

That’s according to journalist Liam Keen, who suggested that the Wolves manager has been left feeling underwhelmed by Tommy Doyle, not eased by the uncertainty of Lemina’s future.

“Tommy Doyle, I don’t think has taken his chances in the last few games, Pereira I think has been a little bit disappointed,” Keen said on The Keen & Judah Show

The reporter continued by relaying that Pereira is ‘desperate’ to welcome another midfielder, predicting how the boss is feeling with regard to Doyle’s impact.

“Vitor Pereira is desperate to sign another midfielder, someone he describes as defensive-minded. I think after Spurs and Forest, someone to cover for when Andre is not available.

“Tommy Doyle came in and didn’t really take his chances, I think he [Pereira] feels that when Andre’s not there, they miss someone with his characteristics.”

With Lemina close to an exit, Boubacar Traore returning from injury and Doyle failing to wow Pereira, the Old Gold are looking at combatting the remainder of the season using Andre and Joao Gomes.

Wolves would be wise to look at midfielders

Having a midfield pairing of the two Brazilians is far from a bad thing however, it’s not sustainable, as Wolves know better than anyone.

Squad depth has been a problem at Molineux for some time and now, it appears that Pereira is looking to get ahead of the curve by addressing something before it becomes an issue.

Wolves have been linked to Gerson, a midfielder representing Flamengo however, nothing has come of speculated interest.

Now we are midway through the January transfer window, time is ticking for Wolves if another midfielder is to be signed, which is clearly in Pereira’s plans.
